Doing her part in sustaining the trend of unheard-of performances whenever the Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever share the floor together, Arike Ogunbowale inscribed her name on a different page of the WNBA’s history books on September 1, 2024. Locked into one of her annual, “only Arike”-type offensive grooves, Ogunbowale, eight 3-pointers into a game that left her hotter than any fever Indiana had ever stumbled across, camps along the far right wing in search of a post entry pass. Pivoting into a triple threat position — a stance in which most mortal scorers survey the scene first — the infinitely-confident star accurately unloads a historic 3-pointer with two Fever defenders crowding her airspace. Ogunbowale’s ninth 3-pointer tied her for the WNBA’s single-game distinction, a record first in 2013. Akin to her gifted counterpart on Indiana’s side, who offered a record-setting 19-assist masterpiece in July’s contest, Ogunbowale’s brilliance, too, went without victory. Transcendent nonetheless, Ogunbowale, in a thrilling clash between two of the league’s most audacious long-range snipers, stole the show through 34 points (on 12-of-25 shooting), eight rebounds (tying a career-high), three assists, one swipe, and nine 3-pointers.
