Without Bradley Beal, the Washington Wizards made sure to show up defensively when the Memphis Grizzlies came to town. Missing the team’s best player allowed others to shine which included Deni Avdija who augmented a career-best 21 points by playing strong defense against the likes of rookie Jake LaRavia.. LaRavia is later denied once again in the form of a Daniel Gafford block, while second-year pro Jordan Goodwin proves his worth when he steps up to block Santi Aldama’s shot. Washington’s veteran players brought the intensity as well, with Will Barton and Monte Morris each pestering the Grizzlies with steals. With Beal unavailable, Kristaps Porziņģis produced a game-high 25 points while adding two steals and blocks apiece, including a rejection of Aldama that kept the young Grizzlies big man searching for answers. Memphis shot just 9 of 28 from three-point range and committed 16 turnovers. All that plus nine Washington steals and six blocks allowed the Wizards to prevail 102-92 on November 13, 2022.
