Betnijah Laney spun herself into two hard-earned points — then immediately defended her way into two more. The New York Liberty forward lacked neither style nor hustle against the Seattle Storm as she navigated her way around Jordan Horston’s defense multiple times on a drive to the basket before connecting on a turnaround bank shot. On the next possession, Laney stepped into a Storm passing lane and came away with a steal that led to a 2-on-1 break with Courtney Vandersloot, who caught a pass from Laney before dishing it right back to the trailing wing for a driving layup. Laney’s seven points, three rebounds and two assists helped the Liberty secure an 80-76 victory on July 8, 2023.
