Entirely aware of the all-hands-on-deck approach needed to upstage the WNBA’s reigning champions on June 9, 2024, the Los Angeles Sparks found survival through the contributions of numerous unsung heroes. During a must-conquer stretch with under four minutes remaining, Los Angeles’ figurative cape was temporarily attached to the back of one player in particular: Rae Burrell. Trailing by two and in need of a crowd-awakening bucket, the former Lady Vol takes advantage of Alysha Clark’s overhelp, calmly cashing a spot-up 3-pointer from the left corner to supercharge the arena. Burrell, with no fear nor hesitation, buried a second, right-corner triple just possessions later, delivering the needed goods for the Sparks’ upset over the Las Vegas Aces on June 9, 2024. Initially called upon to help defend Las Vegas’ straight-line drives and offensive attack, Burrell added straight-line accuracy of her own, needing just five minutes to turn in a memorable seven-point showing with one rebound and two 3-pointers.
