The Toronto Raptors won at least 41 games for the ninth time in 10 seasons but fell short of the postseason for the second time in three years. The team did qualify for the play-in tournament for the first time before ultimately landing on the outside looking in. Even so, seventh-year forward Pascal Siakam earned his second All-Star selection after averaging a career-high 24.2 points and 5.8 assists per game. Fred VanVleet posted 7.2 assists per game, the best mark of his seven-year career, while Gary Trent Jr. had another strong scoring season at 17.4 points per night. Scottie Barnes followed up his Rookie of the Year campaign by averaging an identical 15.3 points per game along with 4.8 assists. The Raptors ranked fourth in opponent points per game in large part because O.G. Anunoby led the league in steals per game and total steals to earn himself a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. Jakob Poeltl returned to the team that drafted him ninth overall in 2016 in a midseason trade and averaged 13.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks in 26 games.
