Parallels

The Orlando Magic missed the postseason for the third consecutive year in 2022-23, but definitive steps in the right direction were taken by the organization. The Magic won 34 games, the franchise’s highest win total since 2018-19 and a 12-game improvement overall. Much of that credit belonged to number one overall pick Paolo Banchero, who was named the Magic’s third Rookie of the Year winner in franchise history and first since 2001. Banchero became just the sixth rookie since 2000 to average 20 points per game and was also the lone unanimous selection to the All-Rookie First Team. Franz Wagner — who was a First Team All-Rookie pick in 2022 — built on his successful first season in the league, averaging 18.6 points per game to finish second on the team in scoring. Former top-10 picks Wendell Carter Jr. and Markelle Fultz had arguably the most productive seasons of their careers, while Cole Anthony, Jalen Suggs and Moritz Wagner also contributed whether they were in the starting lineup or coming off the bench. All between the ages of 20 and 26, this young nucleus took a big step forward together and will look to continue to develop the chemistry and winning culture in 2023-24.
