It likely wasn’t the way they drew it up, but on the final possession of that 20-minute scoring tear, Kelsey Mitchell certainly got the memo. Deserving of a “heat check” with just one missed shot on her box score, Mitchell dribbles through a maze, in search of some way to shake loose of Crystal Dangerfield’s defense. Suddenly giving chase to basketball that moves her from inside the arc to the depths of the left 3-point corner, Mitchell, with little choice but to hoist, elevates into a flawlessly-balanced buzzer-beater to the crowd’s delight. Crafty in her attack throughout the night, Mitchell turned in an efficient 24 points — 16 in the first half — two assists, two steals, and three 3-pointers, opening a still-standing streak of 13 straight double-digit scoring games. The two-time All-Star also played hero with a game-sealing steal-and-score, as Indiana survived the Atlanta Dream for a confidence booster on June 13, 2024.
