Donovan Mitchell’s first year as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers could not have gone much better. Though it was his fourth straight All-Star season, the 2022-23 campaign represented the first time in Mitchell’s six-year career that he’s been selected to an All-NBA team. Mitchell led the Cavs to 51 wins, guiding the franchise back to the postseason for the first time since 2018. He posted a career-best 28.3 points per game while also setting high marks in field-goal, free-throw and 3-point percentage while logging 31 games of 30 or more points and 13 games of at least 40 points. Mitchell was the first player in franchise history to score 40 in four straight games, and he passed LeBron James with the most 40-point games in a Cavs season. The personal high mark of Mitchell’s season was his 71-point eruption in a January 2 win over the Chicago Bulls, making him one of just eight players in NBA history to put up 70 or more in a game — and the first to do so with at least 10 assists. Mitchell tallied 38 points in his first Cleveland playoff game on April 15, a team record for scoring in a postseason debut.
