A perfectionist of the point guard position in every sense, Chris Paul acknowledged that in the aftermath of each game, the vision that established him as one of history’s greatest floor generals eyeballs one box score statistic first: turnovers. One would imagine that December 10, 2016’s result left the Los Angeles Clippers’ then-superstar appreciative of what he saw. Peppered across New Orleans’ single-game assist leaderboards following a historic first iteration in his “Point God” era, the now-seasoned Paul maintained greatness with the L.A. Clippers. Down one-half of his most recognizable “Lob City” connector, Paul still reached apex-like levels, rocketing alley-oop dimes, pocket passes, and lasers of every kind during a first-of-its-kind showing. The night’s conclusion saw 20 points (on 8-of-16 shooting), five rebounds, 20 assists, three steals, three 3-pointers, and zero turnovers, marking the first 20-dime, zero-giveaway game since 1984. Paul also became the first in NBA history to conduct a statistical ledger of this kind, since turnovers weren’t tracked until 1977-78. Requiring fewer than 30 minutes to leave both defenders and their jaws floor-bound, Paul orchestrated a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, elevating Los Angeles to No. 3 in a brutally-competitive Western Conference.
