Donovan Mitchell could not have finished his first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers any stronger. In the team’s regular-season finale, the four-time All-Star invoked former MVPs LeBron James and James Harden as he utilized some crafty handles to dodge the defense of Jalen Suggs before creating enough space to connect on a pull-up jumper from just inside the 3-point line. Mitchell shot 15 of 23 for 43 points, becoming the first player in franchise history to score 40 points in four straight games and first in the league since Harden accomplished the feat during the 2018-19 season. Mitchell’s 13 games of 40 or more points in 2022-23 were a Cavs record, and Cleveland defeated the Orlando Magic 117-113 on April 4, 2023 for the team’s 50th victory of the season.
