Donovan Mitchell continued to make waves in his inaugural Cleveland Cavaliers campaign by unleashing the best singular scoring display in 17 years. An All-Star in his fourth straight season, Mitchell hit the Bulls with a barrage of clutch plays beginning with an intentional free throw miss at the end of regulation that he followed with a circus putback to force overtime. He then scored 13 of Cleveland’s 15 extra session points on a trio of 3-pointers, a transition layup and a pair of free throws to finish with a franchise-record 71 points, becoming the seventh player to join the 70-point club. Mitchell made 22 of 34 shots — as well as 7 of 15 from downtown and 20 of 25 foul shots — while adding eight rebounds and 11 assists in the 145-134 win on January 2, 2023.
