Here, he shows off some deceptive craftiness around the rim, using a quick pick-and-roll and then a sidestep gather to get an angle over the Orlando Magic bigs before dropping in a smooth, game-winning floater. Gordon had a vintage performance in the 118-116 win, with 24 points and four triples on December 3, 2021.

After getting the “too small” taunt from none other than LeBron James on one end of the court, the Oklahoma City Thunder first-year guard catches a pass on the perimeter and splits two Los Angeles Lakers defenders before levitating to dunk all over a third in front of an ecstatic home crowd. Mann bagged 19 points and registered this Dunk of the Year candidate on December 10, 2021.

When the game’s on the line and the defense needs one stop, it always comes down to who wants it most. During the Denver Nuggets’ 93-91 nailbiter over the Minnesota Timberwolves, that player was Will Barton. Despite the Timberwolves’ 3-on-2 advantage, Barton hustles back on the play in transition, then uses his instincts and athleticism to block a potential game-tying layup in the final seconds. Barton chipped in 10 points, three steals and two blocks in the win on October 30, 2021.

In a mismatch with Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela, the Denver Nuggets point guard makes the veteran big man pay for a wide stance by nutmegging a between-the-legs dime to teammate Nikola Jokić for a layup. De’Anthony takes two dribbles from the three-point line, freezes in mid-air when met by the opposing defender, then detonates the rim with an explosive “hangtime” slam. Melton stuffed the stat sheet in Memphis’s historic, 73-point win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 2, 2021 with 19 points, six rebounds and five dimes.

The Brooklyn Nets superstar works his way through the Detroit Pistons defense from the perimeter through the key and to the hoop for an up-and-under reverse layup that banks in off the glass. Here, Williams III leaps in to absolutely destroy a shot attempt in the paint, maintaining balance on the landing and sparking Boston’s fast break at the same time. The “Time Lord” finished with 12 points, seven boards and a game-high five swats in a 99-75 win over the New York Knicks on January 8, 2022.

On the defensive end, Utah Jazz All-Star Donovan Mitchell uses his athleticism, IQ and incredible closing speed to make plays. In a November 29, 2021 meeting with the Portland Trail Blazers, Mitchell spins around a screen to stick with his man and bursts into the passing lane for a clean, transition steal followed by a one-handed tomahawk. Mitchell put up an elite line in Utah’s 129-107 victory over the Trail Blazers with 30 points, five assists and four steals.

Luguentz Dort plays the game of basketball with a palpable energy and an infectious passion. Both are on display here as the Oklahoma City Thunder third-year player tracks a teammate’s three attempt and revs his motor for a monstrous putback slam before spinning into the corner with a celebration for the home fans. The Washington Wizards defense clears the runway, allowing him a free lane to the basket for a two-handed slam.
