In a jubilant home game on the night of Klay Thompson’s return to the NBA, Wiggins pushes the ball up court and gets a ball screen from Steph Curry that allows him to blow past two defenders and sprint straight to the hoop for an emphatic slam. Wiggins and the Warriors walked away with the W against the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 9, 2022.

Since entering the NBA, LaMelo Ball has made the Charlotte Hornets a must-see attraction. Here, he gives a Milwaukee Bucks defender a view from the ground, immobilizing him with a sharp between-the-leg crossover before earning a hockey assist on a Kelly Oubre Jr. three-pointer. Ball had highlight after highlight on December 1, 2021, exploding for 36 points, nine assists, five rebounds, three steals and eight threes.

Curry stuffed the stat sheet with 33 points, five rebounds, six assists and six steals in a 105-90 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on November 28, 2021.

Heading into 2021-22, many questioned if the Los Angeles Lakers’ lack of youth would be their downfall. As veteran guard Malik Monk shows here, they can still fly high when the need arises. With the Atlanta Hawks defense focusing in on Wayne Ellington’s miss, Monk sneaks into the lane and drops a vicious two-handed putback jam. Monk was on his game, pouring in 29 points and seven threes in a 134-118 win on January 7, 2021.

Whenever you’re playing against your old team, you always have a little bit of extra motivation. Patty Mills, more known for his offensive sharpshooting abilities, shows what that extra motivation looks like, fighting through a screen to block a shot against the San Antonio Spurs. Mills tops it off with a beautiful wraparound pass in transition which leads to a Nicolas Claxton jam. The veteran guard had 13 points and six rebounds in a narrow 121-119 win on January 9, 2022.

New York stand up! With the rowdy Madison Square Garden crowd chanting his name, Knicks point guard Kemba Walker put on a show for his hometown. Kemba takes a bounce off a screen, alternates a few dribbles with his right and left, then puts his body into the defender before converting a fall away jumper to cap off a huge, 28-point first half. Walker dropped an incredible line in New York’s December 23, 2021 meeting with the Washington Wizards with a season-high 44 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and seven triples.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Gordon Hayward has the skill to navigate and get a bucket for himself or a teammate off the dribble. Hayward starts out on the perimeter then freezes his man with a slight right-to-left hesitation combo before finishing with a smooth reverse layup. Hayward was on fire in Charlotte’s 131-115 win over the San Antonio Spurs on December 15, 2021, exploding for a season-high 41 points on 15 of 19 attempts from the field), five rebounds, five triples and three assists.

It’s not an easy task for the average defender to stop a player in transition. Good thing Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith ranks amongst the league’s best “shutdown guys.” Here he picks up his man on the break, doesn’t bite on the crossover, stays in front, then completely erases the layup attempt with a spike off the glass. Finney-Smith set the tone with three blocks in a 116-106 victory over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

With an NBA championship on his resumé and multiple All-Star appearances to his name, there isn’t a defensive coverage Kyle Lowry hasn’t seen. Here he takes advantage of a hard closeout, using a subtle jab fake to put a Cleveland Cavaliers defender on the ground before stepping into a three-point bucket. The Miami Heat guard chipped in 22 points and five assists in a 105-94 loss on December 13, 2021.

When the clock is winding down, it’s important to quickly identify your clutch outside shooters. Cleveland Cavaliers veteran Kevin Love certainly qualifies: he recognizes the mismatch, calls for the ball, steps back beyond the three-point line and knocks down a triple to beat the third-quarter buzzer. Love played a crucial role off the bench in Cleveland’s 108-104 win over the Indiana Pacers on January 2, 2022 with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The only thing better than a big play from Bobby Portis is the ensuing celebration. In a road matchup against the Miami Heat, the Milwaukee Bucks veteran meets Tyler Herro at the rim and gets airborne to swat a dunk attempt off the glass. Portis was in his element all night, as demonstrated by an energetic celebration in front of the away crowd. He finished with an impressive 18 points and seven boards on December 8, 2022.

Some players just have certain opponents figured out — Bojan Bogdanović always seems to be at his best against the Denver Nuggets. Here the veteran Utah Jazz forward considers a shot from the perimeter but then thinks better of it, opting to blow past two Nuggets defenders to take it straight to the cup for a one-handed flush. Bogdanović notched 36 points and 13 boards in a 115-109 victory on January 5, 2022.

The ability to move without the ball makes Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane a difficult assignment — he’s always actively looking for baskets inside the paint or beyond the three-point line. Bane initiates the give-and-go with Steven Adams with an entry feed, cuts around his defender, gets it back and finishes an alley-oop layup in a single motion. Bane dropped 28 points to go with four rebounds, four dimes and four triples in a tight road victory against the Utah Jazz on November 22, 2021.

Taking advantage of transition opportunities requires the ability to improvise on the fly. LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac corrals a lead pass after running the floor and drops a beautiful behind-the-back dime to his teammate for an easy finish. Zubac chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds in an overtime matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on November 23, 2021.

San Antonio Spurs guard Lonnie Walker IV pushes the ball up the court and hits the gas before the LA Clippers can set up on defense. Running straight at his defender at top speed, Walker fakes right then moves left with a smooth maneuver to lose his man and lay it in off glass on November 16, 2021.

Aaron Holiday is a creative ball-handler in the vein of his older brother, Jrue. He drives right with a few hard dribbles, then breaks his man with a “snatch-back” crossover followed by a textbook midrange pull-up. Holiday finished with eight points and a couple of takeaways in Washington’s home tilt with the Philadelphia 76ers on December 26, 2021.

The Charlotte Hornets roster is buzzing with youth and swingman Cody Martin is part of that core. Here, he retrieves a deflected ball, takes it the distance and soars for a one-handed dunk on the break. Martin finished with 10 points and eight boards in the October 22, 2021 win at Cleveland.

With a rare combination of supreme athleticism and finishing power, Houston Rockets forward Kenyon Martin Jr. is a nightly candidate for a Top Shot Moment. Martin Jr. fills the lane perfectly on the break and gets impressive elevation on a dynamic lefty slam at the end of the third quarter. Martin’s momentum shifting plays contributed to an impressive 114-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets on December 8, 2021.

A frequent flyer who’s made a name as a ferocious finisher, Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins is no stranger to the friendly skies. He sets a screen up top and climbs the ladder for a devastating alley-oop over the defender. Collins contributed a well-rounded stat line of 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and five blocks in Atlanta’s 113-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 22, 2021.

When you’re labeled as a “shooter,” it’s important to round out other areas of your game. Svi Mykhailiuk unleashes the full arsenal in transition with a slick behind-the-back dribble followed by a lefty hammer over the Indiana Pacers' Justin Holiday. More known for his world-class, dead-eye shooting from deep, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Damian Lillard has to get creative to score past the 6-foot-8 Paul George. Channeling his inner post scorer, he pumps the brakes, spins, then lays out for an up-and-under. Lillard went for 27 points on November 9, 2021.

There aren’t many backcourt rebounders like New Orleans Pelicans wing Josh Hart. He crashes the glass as soon as his teammate releases a shot from downtown and perfectly times a two-handed tip slam between multiple defenders. Hart filled all areas of the stat sheet with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks in New Orleans’s 110-96 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 22, 2021.

Despite your best effort as a defender, Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton will find a way to drop a bucket. Haliburton breaks out his do-it-yourself kit with a double crossover into a driving up-and-under finish through two defenders. Haliburton had a monster game while helping lead Sacramento to a 121-114 win over the San Antonio Spurs on December 19, 2021 with 27 points, 11 dimes and four rebounds on 63% shooting.

No mirror tricks here! Noted right-hander Andrew Wiggins exclusively uses his off-hand for a three-dribble combination and southpaw poster over forward Darius Bazley.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

Put your defender on skates and capitalize. Indiana Pacers third-year forward Kelan Martin catches a pass in the corner, takes two big steps toward the key, then loses his man with a massive crossover before levitating for a silky jumper. Indiana bested the Philadelphia 76ers on the road 118-113 on November 13, 2021.

With his 6-foot-11 frame and 7-foot-5 wingspan, Steven Adams has the ability to affect nearly any shot around the rim. Timing his rotation just right, the Memphis Grizzlies big man was able to sneak into the lane at the last second and send a layup into the stands with an authoritative block. Adams was at his best in this 105-90 triumph over the Miami Heat, producing 17 points, 16 rebounds, a steal and a block on December 6, 2021.

Which way did he go?? It's becoming more and more difficult to keep up with Orlando's Cole Anthony. He waltzes by Miami's usually stingy defense and catches a Gary Harris lob for a windmill, alley-oop finish with his off hand.

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard D’Angelo Russell has incredible style and creativity with the ball in his hands, which makes it difficult for defenders to figure out his next move. He breaks his man down with a few back-and-forth crossovers before shifting gears into a hesitation dribble and lefty scoop. Russell tallied 20 points, six assists, three rebounds and two blocks in an impressive victory over the Miami Heat on November 24, 2021.

Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent is better known for his three-point shooting, but his “first career dunk,” as he calls it, is one for the books. The Washington Wizards defense clears the runway, allowing him a free lane to the basket for a two-handed slam. Vincent did a little bit of everything in this game, finishing with 18 points and three assists in a 112-97 win on November 18, 2021.

The road team wants nothing more than to silence the home crowd in a tense moment. Robert Williams III did just that after diving hard to the basket, hammering home a lob from Jayson Tatum. Williams III tallied a double-double of 12 points & 16 rebounds (to go along with 3 blocks) in Boston's 140-129 double overtime shootout in Charlotte on October 25, 2021.

It’s become increasingly difficult to handle Jalen Brunson off the dribble. The Dallas Mavericks fourth-year guard combines a couple of crossovers into a spinning, falling finish plus the foul. Brunson scorched the nets to the tune of 25 points on 10/13 shooting against the Miami Heat on November 2, 2021.

Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon has carved out a reputation as a feared three-point marksman but, when he’s going downhill, he’s proven he can be just as effective. Gordon uses a drag screen to get a mismatch then leaves a New Orleans Pelicans defender in the dust with a quick in-and-out dribble en route to a crafty right-handed finish. Gordon was in vintage form in a 118-108 victory on December 5, 2021 with an efficient 23-point, five-assist performance.

Don’t sleep on Marcus Morris Sr.’s abilities in isolation — he’s not easy to stop with a solo defender. The talented LA Clippers hybrid forward takes it down court, sets his man up with a few dribbles and breaks him off with a spin move followed by a flawless midrange fadeaway. Morris Sr. led all scorers and racked up a double-double (24 points and 11 rebounds) in a win over the Phoenix Suns on December 13, 2021.

The Atlanta Hawks’ reliable rim protector explodes up and emphatically denies a strong dunk attempt with his off-hand against lefty forward Kelly Oubre Jr. Capela dominated inside with 20 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks in a 115-105 Hawks victory over the Charlotte Hornets on November 20, 2021.

After an offensive rebound falls into his lap, the Sacramento Kings big man puts his 6-foot-11 frame and 37-inch vertical to the test against Portland Trail Blazers big Jusuf Nurkić. The end result? An authoritative one-handed jam that helps seal a Kings’ 125-121 victory on November 24, 2021. Jones stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, five rebounds, two assists and immeasurable energy in the process.

It's practically a layup whenever LaMarcus Aldridge gets off a clean look from the midrange. In year 16, Aldridge knocks down his patented jumper from inside the arc to become just the 48th player in NBA history to reach 20,000 career points.

In his first regular season game with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the rook demonstrates masterful handles, simultaneously losing his defender and drawing two more before floating the rock to a teammate for a layup. In addition to his smooth maneuvers on the court, Giddey locked in 10 rebounds in his debut on October 20, 2021.

The Indiana Pacers guard breaks out a nice dribble combo to get by the Sacramento Kings’ Terence Davis II to finish a scoop shot through contact: hoop plus the harm. McConnell had a huge night with 18 points, seven rebounds and four dimes in a 94-91 Pacer victory on November 7, 2021.

Passing out of the post is a skill Orlando Magic center Robin Lopez has excelled at over the course of his long NBA career. Lopez catches an entry feed from Admiral Schofield, holds the ball out with one hand and quickly fires a return hook pass to Schofield for the finish plus the foul — a perfectly executed give and go. Lopez stepped up big time in his starting role against the Atlanta Hawks on December 22, 2021, tallying an unconventional double-double for a center with 10 points, 11 dimes and five rebounds en route to a 104-98 victory for Orlando.

Normally a go-to scorer from downtown, Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard Grayson Allen turns down a three-point attempt over RJ Barrett and breaks out a nice pass fake to get the upper hand on a tough New York Knicks defense. Nickeil Alexander-Walker shows how it’s done, using a smooth in-and-out crossover before gathering into a whirling, underhand scoop shot over a Memphis Grizzlies big. The New Orleans Pelicans guard led his team with 21 points, scoring efficiently from all three levels in a 112-101 win on November 13, 2021.

Like clockwork, Primo collects the pass, steps into his shot, then releases over the defense for his first points in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

The five-time All-Star blasts down the lane with three power dribbles and finishes through contact while also earning a trip to the charity stripe. His steady play (10 points and seven rebounds) helped spark a 95-78 blowout against the Miami Heat on November 4, 2021.
