Wiggins and the Warriors walked away with the W against the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 9, 2022.

Here, he gives a Milwaukee Bucks defender a view from the ground, immobilizing him with a sharp between-the-leg crossover before earning a hockey assist on a Kelly Oubre Jr. three-pointer. Heading into 2021-22, many questioned if the Los Angeles Lakers’ lack of youth would be their downfall. As veteran guard Malik Monk shows here, they can still fly high when the need arises. With the Atlanta Hawks defense focusing in on Wayne Ellington’s miss, Monk sneaks into the lane and drops a vicious two-handed putback jam. Monk was on his game, pouring in 29 points and seven threes in a 134-118 win on January 7, 2021.

Whenever you’re playing against your old team, you always have a little bit of extra motivation. Patty Mills, more known for his offensive sharpshooting abilities, shows what that extra motivation looks like, fighting through a screen to block a shot against the San Antonio Spurs. Mills tops it off with a beautiful wraparound pass in transition which leads to a Nicolas Claxton jam. The veteran guard had 13 points and six rebounds in a narrow 121-119 win on January 9, 2022.

New York stand up! With the rowdy Madison Square Garden crowd chanting his name, Knicks point guard Kemba Walker put on a show for his hometown. Kemba takes a bounce off a screen, alternates a few dribbles with his right and left, then puts his body into the defender before converting a fall away jumper to cap off a huge, 28-point first half. Walker dropped an incredible line in New York’s December 23, 2021 meeting with the Washington Wizards with a season-high 44 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and seven triples.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Gordon Hayward has the skill to navigate and get a bucket for himself or a teammate off the dribble. Hayward starts out on the perimeter then freezes his man with a slight right-to-left hesitation combo before finishing with a smooth reverse layup. Hayward was on fire in Charlotte’s 131-115 win over the San Antonio Spurs on December 15, 2021, exploding for a season-high 41 points on 15 of 19 attempts from the field), five rebounds, five triples and three assists.

Good thing Dallas Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith ranks amongst the league’s best “shutdown guys.” Here he picks up his man on the break, doesn’t bite on the crossover, stays in front, then completely erases the layup attempt with a spike off the glass. Finney-Smith set the tone with three blocks in a 116-106 victory over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

Here he takes advantage of a hard closeout, using a subtle jab fake to put a Cleveland Cavaliers defender on the ground before stepping into a three-point bucket. The Miami Heat guard chipped in 22 points and five assists in a 105-94 loss on December 13, 2021.

When the clock is winding down, it’s important to quickly identify your clutch outside shooters. Cleveland Cavaliers veteran Kevin Love certainly qualifies: he recognizes the mismatch, calls for the ball, steps back beyond the three-point line and knocks down a triple to beat the third-quarter buzzer. Love played a crucial role off the bench in Cleveland’s 108-104 win over the Indiana Pacers on January 2, 2022 with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The only thing better than a big play from Bobby Portis is the ensuing celebration. In a road matchup against the Miami Heat, the Milwaukee Bucks veteran meets Tyler Herro at the rim and gets airborne to swat a dunk attempt off the glass. Portis was in his element all night, as demonstrated by an energetic celebration in front of the away crowd. He finished with an impressive 18 points and seven boards on December 8, 2022.

Some players just have certain opponents figured out — Bojan Bogdanović always seems to be at his best against the Denver Nuggets. Here the veteran Utah Jazz forward considers a shot from the perimeter but then thinks better of it, opting to blow past two Nuggets defenders to take it straight to the cup for a one-handed flush. Bogdanović notched 36 points and 13 boards in a 115-109 victory on January 5, 2022.

The ability to move without the ball makes Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane a difficult assignment — he’s always actively looking for baskets inside the paint or beyond the three-point line. Bane initiates the give-and-go with Steven Adams with an entry feed, cuts around his defender, gets it back and finishes an alley-oop layup in a single motion. Bane dropped 28 points to go with four rebounds, four dimes and four triples in a tight road victory against the Utah Jazz on November 22, 2021.

Start the post-game show! New Orleans Pelicans guard Devonte’ Graham had no plans of going into overtime despite the Oklahoma City Thunder knotting the score with just a few seconds left in the game. With no timeouts remaining, Graham gets the inbounds pass, takes a dribble to set up and lifts a Hail Mary 61-footer that scrapes the rafters before banking in for the win. The celebration was on, as Graham’s unbelievable shot pushed his Pelicans to a 113-110 victory on December 15, 2021.

Crafty Cleveland Cavaliers lead guard Darius Garland has a deep bag of tricks at his disposal. He whips a bounce off a curl, gathers and draws two defenders before lofting a no-look, over-the-head feed to Evan Mobley for the alley-oop flush. Garland dropped 21 points and seven dimes on the way to a 20-point victory over the Detroit Pistons on November 12, 2021.

“Jaren Jackson Jr. from downtown!” It’s usually a great decision whenever the 6-foot-11 Memphis Grizzlies marksman sets up from long-range. With under 10 seconds to go, he scoops a low kick-out and cashes a clutch, contested three-pointer from his favorite spot on the elbow. JJJ’s huge triple capped off a 26-point, eight-rebound performance and secured a 119-118 victory over the Utah Jazz on November 22, 2021.

Aaron Gordon has been a world class dunker since the earliest days of his NBA career with the Orlando Magic. In a contest against his former squad, the Denver Nuggets forward backs down his defender from the corner, spins into a base-line drive, then levitates around another defender to throw down an emphatic jam. Gordon went for 17 points and eight boards on December 1, 2021.

There’s no better feeling for a basketball player than a walkoff game-winner in front of your home crowd. With little time remaining to get off a clean look, rising New York Knicks star RJ Barrett receives the inbounds pass, takes a dribble to his right, then fades away with a heavily contested lefty triple that banks in off the glass at the buzzer, sending Madison Square Garden into a frenzy. The hero of the night, Barrett’s three lifted the Knicks to a 108-105 win over the rival Boston Celtics on January 6, 2022.

Sporting a quick shot release and endless range, Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes is a great late-game option who doesn’t shy away from clutch moments. With just under a second left in the game, Barnes gets open, turns and rapidly fires a fadeaway three-pointer while drifting to his left. The shot falls in to beat the buzzer, silencing the Footprint Center in Phoenix. Barnes finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists and the final three-point dagger against the Suns on October 27, 2021.

There is no questioning the dedication of an undrafted hooper who becomes an NBA vet. More specifically in this case, there is no questioning Christian Wood’s dedication to getting to the rim. The Houston Rockets big man kicks a pass out to a teammate on the perimeter, finds himself wide open and gets the rock back before slamming it home with a two-handed contested flush. Wood had 20 points and 11 boards on December 22, 2021.

With the game on the line, it pays to have a player with supreme confidence like Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma. Here, with the score tied and 10 seconds remaining, Washington swings the ball around the perimeter, finally finding the former NBA champion for a game-winning corner three. Kuzma pieced together 26 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four triples in a 119-116 victory over the Detroit Pistons on December 8, 2021.

Marcus Smart’s motor is a sight to behold. The Boston Celtics veteran goes the extra mile on a nightly basis, and not even a three-time Defensive Player of the Year can get in the way of that. Here Smart makes his way to the hoop while tracking a teammate’s layup attempt. As the ball bounces around the rim, he jumps up from behind an unsuspecting Rudy Gobert and slams a putback down on the Utah Jazz big man for two of his 15 points on December 3, 2021.

Hitting a game-winning buzzer beater is an incredible feat for an NBA sophomore — doing so over a double team in overtime is a whole other level. Detroit Pistons second-year forward Saddiq Bey gets open in the corner as teammate Derrick Walton Jr. gets into the paint and kicks a bounce pass out to Bey through the legs of a San Antonio Spurs defender. In double coverage, Bey heaves a shot up with three seconds left on the clock and it falls true to give his side a 117-116 win at home on January 1, 2022.

With the game on the line, you need a star player capable of both getting open and hitting a tough shot under pressure. New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram shows how it’s done, stopping on a dime to free himself of the defense before draining a cold-blooded, game-winning three-point dagger over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ingram was on his game with 33 points, nine assists, and six threes in the 128-125 victory on January 11, 2021.

You can’t teach clutch, but allow Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to demonstrate. In the dying seconds of a matchup against the LA Clippers, the Oklahoma City Thunder guard gets open and calls for the rock with his squad down by two. He then dribbles into open space and heaves a three that falls through the rim just as the clock runs out and he’s swarmed by his celebrating teammates on December 18, 2021.

Unless you want to get posterized, it’s unwise to give Bradley Beal a couple of left-handed power dribbles in the lane. Beal makes a right-to-left crossover, takes a few hard bounces towards the rim and drops a nasty one-handed slam over reigning Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. Washington’s three-time All-Star had a marquee performance in their 109-103 victory over the Utah Jazz on December 18, 2021 with 37 points, seven dimes and five rebounds.

When Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Dončić gets his feet set for his signature fadeaway, you’d better be ready to catch it out of the net. Dončić gave the Boston Celtics dejà vu with two game-winners from the same spot in the same year. Here he drives left, gets to his spot and drains a cold-blooded stepback game-winning three-pointer with three opponents in his airspace. Dončić had 33 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 107-104 victory on November 6, 2021.

Feeling himself in a career-high 42-point performance, Indiana Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis works the two-man game to perfection with teammate Lance Stephenson, punishing the defense for losing focus of the former All-Star in the paint. Sabonis set his new high-water mark in the points column on 18-of-22 shooting from the field in the January 8, 2022 win over the Utah Jazz.

Taking advantage of transition opportunities requires the ability to improvise on the fly. LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac corrals a lead pass after running the floor and drops a beautiful behind-the-back dime to his teammate for an easy finish. Zubac chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds in an overtime matchup against the Dallas Mavericks on November 23, 2021.

Harrison Barnes is no stranger to big-time shots. The veteran swingman calmly takes a pass from teammate, De'Aaron Fox, and sinks a clutch contested corner trey. Barnes drained a career-high eight three-pointers towards 36 points in the Kings road win on October 20, 2021.

Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands — and sometimes you have to take them behind the back too. San Antonio Spurs guard Lonnie Walker IV pushes the ball up the court and hits the gas before the LA Clippers can set up on defense. Running straight at his defender at top speed, Walker fakes right then moves left with a smooth maneuver to lose his man and lay it in off glass on November 16, 2021.

Aaron Holiday is a creative ball-handler in the vein of his older brother, Jrue. He drives right with a few hard dribbles, then breaks his man with a “snatch-back” crossover followed by a textbook midrange pull-up. Holiday finished with eight points and a couple of takeaways in Washington’s home tilt with the Philadelphia 76ers on December 26, 2021.

The Charlotte Hornets roster is buzzing with youth and swingman Cody Martin is part of that core. Here, he retrieves a deflected ball, takes it the distance and soars for a one-handed dunk on the break. Martin finished with 10 points and eight boards in the October 22, 2021 win at Cleveland.

With a rare combination of supreme athleticism and finishing power, Houston Rockets forward Kenyon Martin Jr. is a nightly candidate for a Top Shot Moment. Martin Jr. fills the lane perfectly on the break and gets impressive elevation on a dynamic lefty slam at the end of the third quarter. Martin’s momentum shifting plays contributed to an impressive 114-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets on December 8, 2021.

A frequent flyer who’s made a name as a ferocious finisher, Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins is no stranger to the friendly skies. He sets a screen up top and climbs the ladder for a devastating alley-oop over the defender. Collins contributed a well-rounded stat line of 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and five blocks in Atlanta’s 113-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 22, 2021.

When you’re labeled as a “shooter,” it’s important to round out other areas of your game. Svi Mykhailiuk unleashes the full arsenal in transition with a slick behind-the-back dribble followed by a lefty hammer over the Indiana Pacers' Justin Holiday. More known for his world-class, dead-eye shooting from deep, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Damian Lillard has to get creative to score past the 6-foot-8 Paul George. Channeling his inner post scorer, he pumps the brakes, spins, then lays out for an up-and-under. Lillard went for 27 points on November 9, 2021.

There aren’t many backcourt rebounders like New Orleans Pelicans wing Josh Hart. He crashes the glass as soon as his teammate releases a shot from downtown and perfectly times a two-handed tip slam between multiple defenders. Hart filled all areas of the stat sheet with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks in New Orleans’s 110-96 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 22, 2021.

Despite your best effort as a defender, Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton will find a way to drop a bucket. Haliburton breaks out his do-it-yourself kit with a double crossover into a driving up-and-under finish through two defenders. Haliburton had a monster game while helping lead Sacramento to a 121-114 win over the San Antonio Spurs on December 19, 2021 with 27 points, 11 dimes and four rebounds on 63% shooting.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

Indiana Pacers third-year forward Kelan Martin catches a pass in the corner, takes two big steps toward the key, then loses his man with a massive crossover before levitating for a silky jumper. Indiana bested the Philadelphia 76ers on the road 118-113 on November 13, 2021.

With his 6-foot-11 frame and 7-foot-5 wingspan, Steven Adams has the ability to affect nearly any shot around the rim. Timing his rotation just right, the Memphis Grizzlies big man was able to sneak into the lane at the last second and send a layup into the stands with an authoritative block. Adams was at his best in this 105-90 triumph over the Miami Heat, producing 17 points, 16 rebounds, a steal and a block on December 6, 2021.

Which way did he go?? It's becoming more and more difficult to keep up with Orlando's Cole Anthony. He waltzes by Miami's usually stingy defense and catches a Gary Harris lob for a windmill, alley-oop finish with his off hand.

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard D’Angelo Russell has incredible style and creativity with the ball in his hands, which makes it difficult for defenders to figure out his next move. He breaks his man down with a few back-and-forth crossovers before shifting gears into a hesitation dribble and lefty scoop. Russell tallied 20 points, six assists, three rebounds and two blocks in an impressive victory over the Miami Heat on November 24, 2021.

Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent is better known for his three-point shooting, but his “first career dunk,” as he calls it, is one for the books. The Washington Wizards defense clears the runway, allowing him a free lane to the basket for a two-handed slam. Vincent did a little bit of everything in this game, finishing with 18 points and three assists in a 112-97 win on November 18, 2021.

The road team wants nothing more than to silence the home crowd in a tense moment. Robert Williams III did just that after diving hard to the basket, hammering home a lob from Jayson Tatum. It’s become increasingly difficult to handle Jalen Brunson off the dribble. The Dallas Mavericks fourth-year guard combines a couple of crossovers into a spinning, falling finish plus the foul. Brunson scorched the nets to the tune of 25 points on 10/13 shooting against the Miami Heat on November 2, 2021.

Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon has carved out a reputation as a feared three-point marksman but, when he’s going downhill, he’s proven he can be just as effective. Gordon uses a drag screen to get a mismatch then leaves a New Orleans Pelicans defender in the dust with a quick in-and-out dribble en route to a crafty right-handed finish. Gordon was in vintage form in a 118-108 victory on December 5, 2021 with an efficient 23-point, five-assist performance.

The talented LA Clippers hybrid forward takes it down court, sets his man up with a few dribbles and breaks him off with a spin move followed by a flawless midrange fadeaway. Morris Sr. led all scorers and racked up a double-double (24 points and 11 rebounds) in a win over the Phoenix Suns on December 13, 2021.

After an offensive rebound falls into his lap, the Sacramento Kings big man puts his 6-foot-11 frame and 37-inch vertical to the test against Portland Trail Blazers big Jusuf Nurkić. The end result? An authoritative one-handed jam that helps seal a Kings’ 125-121 victory on November 24, 2021.
