In a home opener to kick off another potential MVP season, the Golden State Warriors guard pushes the ball up the court and heaves it to a teammate in the corner. The seven-time All-Star hit his first 10 field goals of the night on October 21, 2021, while pouring in 25 of his 45 points in the first quarter alone.

In his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets, first-year guard Jalen Green sprints to catch a pass near the perimeter and continues toward the hoop as several defenders mark him. Meeting Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns at the rim, Green goes up and under in midair for an acrobatic reverse layup - the first bucket of his career - on October 20, 2021.

In addition to his smooth maneuvers on the court, Giddey locked in 10 rebounds in his debut on October 20, 2021.

Making an impact on a playoff-hopeful squad is no easy feat for a rookie — just don’t tell that to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. In his NBA debut, the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, catches a behind-the-back bounce pass from teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson and steps back behind the arc to launch a confident three for his first-career bucket. Kuminga walked away with a Warriors win and the game ball on October 30, 2021.

There’s nothing quite like that first-ever bucket in the NBA. For Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves, that moment required a little creativity. Here, against the Phoenix Suns, Reaves punishes an overaggressive closeout before snaking his way into the middle of the lane for a high-arcing leaner over the outstretched arms of a defender. In a play typically saved for All-Star weekend, Dončić freezes the defense with a behind-the-back combo straight into a cross-court pass, finding Kristaps Porzingis for a crucial three-pointer on the left wing. Dončić led the way with 26 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds during the Mavericks’ 116-106 triumph over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

The ability to make tough shots cannot be taught. Denver Nuggets rookie Bones Hyland shows no fear in going 1-on-1 with his defender and puts on a series of moves, hesitations and fakes. Despite stout defense, Hyland still converts a leaning, one-handed fadeaway going left. That’s tough. The bucket counted for two of Hyland’s seven points off the bench in his NBA debut on October 25, 2021.

With elite bucket-getting abilities, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has proven he’s no average rookie. With the fate of his team in his hands, Thomas attacks a hard closeout before calmly draining a game-winning, one-legged leaner to defeat the San Antonio Spurs. Jose Alvarado proves up to the challenge, putting the New York Knicks’ defense through a game of hide-and-seek. Alvarado made good on his homecoming with an efficient 13-point, four-assist, four-steal performance in a 102-91 win for the New Orleans Pelicans on January 20, 2022.

Klay Thompson may be one of the most feared shooters in NBA history, but he’s got other facets to his game he can contribute with as well. He showcases one here, leaking out on a fastbreak and facing a drive before dropping off a behind-the-back dish to a teammate for a score. New Orleans Pelicans neophyte Herbert Jones considers a shot on the perimeter then, seeing a path to the rim with only three-time All-Star and reigning MVP Nikola Jokić in the way, decides to take his chances. The rookie center comes up big, reaching up and over his defender’s outstretched arm for a one-handed jam on December 8, 2021.

With the All-Star Game in his town, it was only right that Darius Garland provided a few highlights for the crowd. Showing off his court vision, Garland surveys the field before finding teammate Jarrett Allen on a sweet lob dish to set up a jam. The Cleveland Cavaliers guard proved victorious in his All-Star debut, helping Team LeBron to a 163-160 win with 13 points, three assists, three triples and two steals on February 20, 2022.

Forget everything you know about conventional basketball when Nikola Jokić hits the floor. The mesmerizing Denver Nuggets center defies positional norms yet again on January 7, 2022, seamlessly carrying the rock the length of the floor against the Sacramento Kings, then hitting JaMychal Green in stride with a casual no-look, one-handed entry feed. Jokić finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win.

The Boston Celtics star puts on a dribbling clinic in a series of maneuvers before losing his defender with a quick spin move and explosive finish at the hoop. Ball on a string. Even in an All-Star game, Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler is looking to capitalize off mistakes and turn them into points. Butler intercepts an errant pass and launches the ball down the court to a wide-open Darius Garland for the two-handed flush. In his sixth All-Star appearance, Butler finished with a pair of takeaways for Team LeBron on February 20, 2022.

All season long, Fred VanVleet has been one of the NBA’s most consistent buckets with the Toronto Raptors. With a little airspace in transition, VanVleet shows his talent on the All-Star stage, pulling up for a smooth three-pointer. In his All-Star debut on February 20, 2022, VanVleet chipped in six points, three assists and two triples for Team LeBron.

With time fast expiring in the first quarter, Mann fearlessly takes one step toward the basket then steps back to sink a long jumper over Gobert’s outstretched arm in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

The three-time Boston Celtics All-Star put up eight points, five assists and four rebounds for Team Durant on February 20, 2022.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Dallas Mavericks guard Reggie Bullock provides a lesson in persistence here, missing on his first three-point attempt before draining it on his second chance to send the crowd into a frenzy with a clutch bucket. Bullock had a highlight game with 20 points, four rebounds and four triples to help his squad outlast the Philadelphia 76ers in a 107-98 win on February 4, 2022.

No matter the matchup, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has proven he’s confident he can score in any situation. Despite giving up size in an isolation against a Denver Nuggets big, Edwards takes him for a dance, working a mix of between-the-legs, in-and-out crossovers and hesitations before getting enough space to drain a stepback three-pointer. That was the story of the night, as Edwards exploded for 38 points, 10 three-pointers and five rebounds in a 124-107 win on December 15, 2021.

See an open lane and take it. With defensive attention zeroed in on Golden State Warriors teammate Steph Curry, versatile big man Draymond Green finds a clear path to the cup. It doesn’t take more than a split second for Green to decide what he wants to do: one hard dribble, two big steps and one monster hammer up and over the defense. Green registered a well-rounded line of eight points, eight boards and five dimes in the November 5, 2021 win over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans.

Out on the fastbreak, the Indiana Pacers forward takes flight, paying homage to a certain mailman of a different time with an impressive one-hand-behind-the-head jam. Showing off his relentless motor, Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams speeds back on defense, pins a Denver Nuggets shot against the glass and saves an easy score. Williams chipped in eight points, two triples and a pair of blocks, his hustle plays proving critical in a 108-102 win on February 11, 2022.

The NBA is filled with some of the world’s most talented scorers but few are as crafty as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard shows off his silky-smooth handle, freeing himself of tight defensive coverage with a between-the-legs, crossover combo before gathering into a hanging floater at the rim. It was business as usual for Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a 130-109 win over the star-studded Brooklyn Nets on January 13, 2022.

Trying to stop Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is a monumental task that requires multiple efforts from multiple defenders. Even then, it might not be enough. Edwards crosses right by his man, drives hard to the rim and tries to draw contact, but instead flips the ball high off glass with a ridiculous up-and-under. Edwards dropped 19 points and dished out six dimes in Minnesota’s 141-123 victory over the Houston Rockets on January 9, 2021.

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns loves to get out on the break in order to showcase his creative finishing ability in the air. Towns gets ahead of the defense and pulls off his go-to, reverse windmill dunk in transition. In his third All-Star appearance, KAT had a solid outing for Team Durant, finishing with nine points, six rebounds and three assists in the February 20, 2022 matchup.

Houston Rockets rookie Usman Garuba flashes his defensive court awareness and athleticism, switching onto the ball handler, then recovering back to his man to swat away a dunk attempt. Here, he takes off as a roll man in a pick-and-roll and snags a lob for an athletic one-handed slam. It hasn’t taken long for Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey’s offensive brilliance to earn the utmost respect from NBA defenses. Here, Maxey uses it to his advantage, drawing in a Detroit Pistons defender on a 3-on-1 fastbreak before whipping a behind-the-back pass to set up teammate Tobias Harris for a jam. Maxey had 16 points on just eight shots, and chipped in six rebounds and six assists in a 110-102 win on October 28, 2021.

Now just where did that man go? Toronto Raptors star Fred VanVleet gives Brooklyn Nets stars Patty Mills and James Harden windburn as he slips past their clutches like a ghost in the night. To top it all off, he drives to the basket, finishing a beautiful layup around the enormous outstretched arms of Kevin Durant. It’s yet another prime example of why VanVleet became an All-Star for the first time this season. The Raptors guard had 21 points and eight assists on November 7, 2021.

If there’s any opportunity for a lob, Los Angeles Lakers veteran center DeAndre Jordan will find a way to convert. This time, he initiates things with a head-nod and quick feed to Russell Westbrook, follows up with an even quicker dive to the rim and receives a beautiful return feed for his patented right-handed oop. DJ’s slam was part of a big night against the Charlotte Hornets on November 8, 2021.

It didn’t take long for Marvin Bagley III’s eye-popping athleticism to come to light in his new environment. Working a two-man game in a pick-and-roll, the new Detroit Pistons big man slips a screen and rises high to throw down a two-handed alley-oop slam against the Boston Celtics. Bagley III chipped in six points and six rebounds in the 112-111 upset win on February 16, 2022.

If you get caught in a screen-and-roll against the Phoenix Suns, be prepared to give up some points, one way or another. Deandre Ayton shows one of those ways, rolling to the basket and slamming in a rim-shaking putback jam off a teammate’s miss. Ayton made his presence felt with 21 points, 21 rebounds and a block in the October 27, 2021.

Since joining the Toronto Raptors, Gary Trent Jr. has taken his game to an entirely new level. With the clock winding down, he shows off one of his tricks, taking a handoff pass before dribbling into a cold-blooded, one-legged deep three-pointer at the buzzer. Trent Jr. had threes in abundance against the Atlanta Hawks on January 31, 2022, finishing with 31 points, six rebounds and nine triples in a 106-100 victory.

More known for his world-class, dead-eye shooting from deep, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Damian Lillard has to get creative to score past the 6-foot-8 Paul George. Channeling his inner post scorer, he pumps the brakes, spins, then lays out for an up-and-under. Lillard went for 27 points on November 9, 2021.

Anfernee Simons is a hooper. The third-year Portland Trail Blazers guard knows how to set up his defender with the rock in his hands. Simons hits a crossover going right, splits the defense and finishes a tough, contested runner that finds nothing but bottom. Simons poured in 17 points off the pine in the November 1, 2021 matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Calling his own number on a dribble handoff, the Cleveland Cavaliers big man decides to take flight, rising up in traffic over the San Antonio Spurs defense for a thunderous jam. Tyler Herro’s all-around game continues to evolve - the talented two guard has upped the ante in every aspect during his third year in the NBA. Herro notices a wide-open player on the break and perfectly times a beautiful block off the glass to prevent an easy score. Herro starred for the Miami Heat in their 115-91 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on January 12, 2022, finishing with 21 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds off the bench. 

The Golden State Warriors are well-known for their ability to light it up from deep, but they’ve also got players capable of flying high as well. Talented forward Juan Toscano-Anderson makes his name heard here, faking a dribble hand-off before taking off for a thunderous one-handed flush over the Philadelphia 76ers. Toscano-Anderson was a perfect six-of-six from the field, and finished with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists in a 116-96 blowout win on November 24, 2021.

With athletic forwards across their rotation, the Charlotte Hornets have players capable of creating a highlight jam at any time. Here, Jalen McDaniels gets his shot, using his speed to beat a closeout before rising up for a vicious tomahawk jam against the Denver Nuggets. McDaniels made good on the added playing time, with 12 points, six rebounds and a block in a 115-107 triumph on December 23, 2021.

Indiana Pacers rookie Duane Washington Jr. is rapidly developing as an instant-offense bucket-getter who can generate clean looks on his own. Washington Jr. catches the ball on the perimeter, makes a quick move to his left, then crosses into a nasty spin-stepback combo before dropping back for a jumper. Washington Jr. was a major contributor against the New York Knicks on January 4, 2022, producing a nice line of 17 points, four assists and two rebounds.

Since joining the Portland Trail Blazers, combo guard Josh Hart has thrived as both a reliable scorer and shot creator for his teammates. To draw the attention of the Memphis Grizzlies defense, Hart uses a lightning-quick first step and spin before setting up a teammate for a wide-open corner triple. Hart did a little bit of everything on February 16, 2022, with 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three triples in a thrilling 123-119 victory.

Isolate Chris Paul in the mid-range and it's an automatic bucket. Even against an all-world defender in Anthony Davis, the veteran floor general puts on a dribbling clinic before casually rising up for a contested jumper that splashes the bottom of the net. Silky smooth.

It’s become increasingly difficult to handle Jalen Brunson off the dribble. The Dallas Mavericks fourth-year guard combines a couple of crossovers into a spinning, falling finish plus the foul.
