Dončić reminds everybody that he can score every which way, from step-back triples to impossible-to-defend dribble drives that result in easy layups and floaters. The fifth-year star also remains an elite facilitator, as he nonchalantly sets up his teammates with a plethora of highlight-reel passes: an over-the-head no-look dish to Maxi Kleber, a spin-turned-kickout to Tim Hardaway Jr. and a behind-the-back dropoff to Reggie Bullock. When the final horn sounded, the Dallas Mavericks walked off with a 129-125 overtime road victory thanks to 41 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists and three steals from Dončić, becoming just the 10th player in NBA history to record three 40-point triple-doubles.

When your blocked shots have visibly notable exit velocity, you’re doing something right on defense. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, already an all-time chasedown block artist, picks up a surging Collin Sexton in transition then launches his layup attempt to the scorers’ table in a January 25, 2021 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That’s my quarterback! LeBron James sizes up a defensive rebound as it caroms off the rim then immediately throws a perfect spiral down the court to a streaking Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on January 10, 2021. James put up 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Houston Rockets.

The first six minutes of Jalen Williams’ career turned out to be pretty perfect. After the Oklahoma City Thunder made him the 12th pick in the draft, Williams rewards their faith, passing up a three-point attempt to instead take a run right at Karl-Anthony Towns. Williams puts the ball on the floor with his left hand, driving hard toward the basket and getting the best of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ three-time All-Star with a baseline floater. Williams made both of his field-goal attempts and added an assist during his October 19, 2022 professional debut.

Adding Jaden Ivey to a Detroit Pistons team loaded with young talent has brought basketball excitement back to the Motor City. Despite it being his first career NBA game, the rookie point guard looked at ease in his debut against the Orlando Magic. When a steal lands in his hands, the lightning-quick Ivey is off to the races leading the counterattack, dropping an underhanded scoop pass to teammate Saddiq Bey for a transition layup less than two minutes into his NBA career. Ivey played with the poise of a veteran, tallying 19 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 113-109 Pistons victory on October 19, 2022.

It took all of one game for Jabari Smith Jr. to make an immediate impact with the Houston Rockets. A few months after Houston made him the third pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-11 rookie rewards his team’s faith in him by showcasing his deft shooting touch from long range. Against the Atlanta Hawks in his first professional game, Smith Jr. crosses halfcourt, takes a pass from a teammate and without hesitation rises up from way behind the arc to drain one of his three triples. The Rockets may have lost the game, but they left Atlanta feeling confident about the future after Smith Jr. posted 17 points and seven rebounds on October 19, 2022.

A double-double in your NBA debut? Not too shabby for Utah Jazz rookie Walker Kessler, who came to play in his first career game against the Denver Nuggets. The 7-footer runs the floor with teammate Collin Sexton, who drops off a pass at the foul line and leaves Kessler face-to-face with two-time reigning MVP Nikola Jokić. Kessler shows no fear, taking one dribble before pivoting his way around the Joker for a hard-earned layup. The 22nd-overall pick made all five of his field-goal attempts for 12 points while adding 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal, helping Utah prevail 123-102 on October 19, 2022.

Despite not suiting up during his lone college campaign last season, Shaedon Sharpe was more than ready for his NBA debut. The Portland Trail Blazers’ prized rookie shows no evidence of rust against the Sacramento Kings, casually shaking off his defender and draining a corner triple off an inbound pass. Sharpe made a major impact in just 16 minutes off the bench, scoring 12 points — shooting 3-for-3 on three-pointers — and adding two rebounds in a 115-108 win on October 19, 2022.

The San Antonio Spurs have always gravitated toward unselfish offensive players who bring a gritty intensity to the defensive end. Jeremy Sochan fits the blueprint like a glove and is already fitting seamlessly into the Spurs’ system. With the ball in his hands, Sochan passes off to a teammate before dropping down into the post and immediately taking it back to deposit for an and-one opportunity at the rim. The rookie forward made a solid first impression, posting four points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Charlotte Hornets on October 19, 2022.

In his rise toward superstardom, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has become most-known for his three-point shooting and the fear it strikes in opposing defenses. That said, you don’t become a multi-time NBA champion without knowing how to make critical plays on the defensive end, too. Taking on the challenge of guarding Memphis Grizzlies’ guard Ja Morant with the game down to a single shot, Curry mirrors him perfectly before meeting him at the launch point for a game-saving block. The two-time MVP chipped in with 24 points, five triples, three rebounds and four assists helping the Warriors throw the first haymaker of the series with a 117-116 win on May 1, 2022.

There are three-point shooters who change games, and three-point shooters who change the game. Steph Curry is definitively the latter. In a home opener to kick off another potential MVP season, the Golden State Warriors guard pushes the ball up the court and heaves it to a teammate in the corner. Curry then chases his own pass and calls for the ball back to sink a high-flying, catch-and-shoot triple. The seven-time All-Star hit his first 10 field goals of the night on October 21, 2021, while pouring in 25 of his 45 points in the first quarter alone.

History hits different at home. Embattled in a heated Game 1 matchup against a Brooklyn Nets team once considered a title favorite, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum sent the loudest conceivable message to the basketball world watching, capping off an instant-classic display of ball movement with a game-winning, spinning layup off glass just as the final horn sounded on April 17, 2022. Tatum’s late bucket marks Boston’s first game-winning playoff buzzer beater on home soil in the franchise’s 75-year history.

With his team in danger of dropping two series-opening games on their home floor, Ja Morant decided it was time to score by any means, even if it meant putting a defender on that very floor. Trailing 99-98 with under two minutes to go, the Memphis Grizzlies guard calls an isolation before slicing a Golden State Warriors defender with a rhythmic-crossover-half-spin combination before dropping in a floater to give his team a lead they would never again surrender. Morant added to his big-game profile on May 3, 2022, with 47 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a 106-101 win to tie the series at one game apiece.

When the Golden State Warriors get a numbers advantage on the break, it’s wise to get your cameras ready. Taking advantage of a teammate’s excellent defense, Warriors rookie forward Jonathan Kuminga leaks out in transition, outrunning each of the Sacramento Kings players down the floor before starting up his own in-game Slam Dunk Contest with a show-stopping reverse cradle jam. Kuminga had highlights in abundance with 18 points, seven rebounds and a steal in a 126-114 victory on February 3, 2022.

Fueled by competitiveness and his basketball IQ, there are no matchups too big for Golden State Warriors defensive powerhouse Draymond Green. Holding a 116-111 lead in the fourth quarter of Game 3 of the First Round, everyone in the arena knew where the Denver Nuggets would go with the ball next. Outsized by a skilled and strong Nikola Jokić, Green stands his ground before perfectly timing a reach to come up with a game-sealing steal to push his team to a 118-113 win and a 3-0 series lead. The six-time All-Defensive teamer was everywhere on April 21, 2022 with six points, five rebounds, 10 assists and two steals.

It’s Year 15 and Kevin Durant can still make jaws hit the floor with his ability to dominate a basketball game. The Orlando Magic were the 12-time All-Star’s latest victim, as Durant picks them apart in a variety of ways — on offense, he reaches into his bag of tricks for a one-handed floater off the glass, a spot-up triple, a dribble-drive into a baseline fall-away jumper and an open mid-range shot off a behind-the-back maneuver. The two-time champion and Finals MVP comes up big on the defensive end as well, turning a rebound into a long outlet dish to Joe Harris while also blocking a shot and picking Franz Wagner’s pocket at halfcourt en route to a slam. When it was over, Durant lit Orlando up for 45 points on 19-of-24 shooting while also chipping in seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in the 109-102 win on November 28, 2022.

Revenge is a dish best served at the buzzer. Knotted in the final seconds of an overtime battle against the Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid darts into position after a sideline timeout, grabs the rock with a hair over two seconds on the clock, then pulls up for a game-sealing triple on a court he has his share of history with. Embiid put up 33 points and 13 rebounds in the Game 3 victory on April 20, 2022.

Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry has naturally creative instincts as a passer, with the patience and skill to improvise and make a pinpoint dime. He scoops up an errant feed, takes a slight dribble and lofts a beautiful, two-handed, over-the-head dish to a wide open Jordan Poole for a breakaway slam. Curry dropped a game-high 10 assists to go along with 24 points, six rebounds and three steals in a road matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on November 14, 2021.

Sometimes, the difference between a star and a full-on superstar can be found through how a player responds in must-win games with the season on the line. Down 3-2 against the defending NBA champions on their own home court, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum showed which type he was in Game 6. Working against a taxing Bucks defense late in the game, Tatum finds an extra gear, rejecting a pick-and-roll on the way to the basket before exploding through with a strong, and-one layup in traffic, pushing the Celtics’ lead to 13 with two minutes to go. Forcing Game 7, Tatum pieced together a 46-point, nine-rebound, four-assist game with seven triples on May 13, 2022.

Rookies aren’t expected to make a big impact in the playoffs but it’s clear Jose Alvarado had other plans. Using his viral sneak-steal, the undersized menace preys on one of the NBA’s greatest floor generals with an incredible defensive play, leading to an easy score the other way. The play helped halt any comeback attempt from the Phoenix Suns, as the Pelicans marched to a 118-103 win to even the First Round series up at 2-2. Alvarado chipped in five points, two rebounds and a pair of key fourth-quarter swipes on April 24, 2022.

If you’re gonna make a run at the Golden State Warriors, you’d better at least come equipped with a generational scorer capable of hitting any shot. Working off a drag screen near half court, Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Dončić proves to be that guy, blowing by a defender on a pick-and-roll switch before hitting an off-balanced, high-arching leaner. Though ultimately for naught, Dončić’s efforts helped provide a small comeback scare. The All-Star finished his most successful season with 28 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three triples and one steal on May 26, 2022. 

Although there are plenty of new faces on the Utah Jazz, Lauri Markkanen and his teammates look like they have been playing together for years. Markkanen makes an impact right away with his new squad following a season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, taking a pass in the corner, where he’s immediately confronted by two-time reigning MVP Nikola Jokić. Thinking quickly on his feet, Markkanen fires a one-handed missile into the other corner, where fellow new arrival Collin Sexton is waiting to drain the triple. The Finnish big man contributed 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, kicking off a new era of Jazz basketball with a 123-102 rout of the Denver Nuggets on October 19, 2022.

Give and you shall receive, or such was the case for Gary Payton II, who happened to be in position for the biggest shot of his professional career in the fourth quarter of Game 5 of the First Round. Following a series of extra passes, Payton finds himself open with the ball, then stabilizes for a three-pointer that extends the Golden State Warriors’ lead to five, effectively sealing the series over the Denver Nuggets. Payton was dependable and excellent, with 15 points on six-of-eight shooting and three triples in a 102-98 victory on April 27, 2022.

While the Los Angeles Lakers have endured a slow start to the 2022-23 season, the same cannot be said for Anthony Davis. Now in his fourth season in Tinseltown, the eight-time All-Star treats the Phoenix Suns to a vintage performance of total domination in which he impacts every facet of the game. The 2020 NBA champion unselfishly distributes to his teammates, mercilessly blocks shots and creates steals on the defensive end while muscling his way to an enormous quantity of rebounds. Davis scores at will too, from strong drives to the hoop to cleaning up messes under the glass. Doing it all for the Lakers on both ends with LeBron James unavailable, Davis poured in 37 points on 11-of-17 from the field and 15-for-16 from the line, chipping in an absurd 21 boards, two assists, five steals and five blocks in the November 22, 2022 divisional showdown.

From second-round pick to immediate rotation contributor — not too shabby for Andrew Nembhard. The first pick of the 2022 NBA Draft’s second round showcases his unselfish playmaking ability against the San Antonio Spurs, driving just inside the three-point arc before flicking a beauty of an alley-oop pass to fellow reserve Isaiah Jackson for the throwdown. Nembhard logged 30 minutes of action in his NBA debut, contributing 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in the October 21, 2022 contest.

After staking his claim as the NBA’s best late-game scorer in the regular season, it was only right that Chicago Bulls star guard DeMar DeRozan have that opportunity in the postseason. Up three with 30 seconds to go in Game 2 of the First Round, the five-time All-Star called his own number, attacking the rim with aggression on the way to a cold-blooded game-clincher over and around the Milwaukee Bucks defense. DeRozan was spectacular, tallying 41 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the 114-110 victory to even the series at one game apiece on April 20, 2022.

When defending the Golden State Warriors’ talented offense, prepare to be attacked from every angle. Dazzling as a scorer in his first postseason, Jordan Poole shows off his playmaking skills, splitting through a double drag screen before shipping a smooth delivery to his cutting teammate for a jam. Poole proved instrumental in erasing a 19-point first half deficit. The brilliant two-guard needed just 10 shots for 23 points, adding five assists and two steals in a 126-117 win on May 20, 2022.

Second time's the charm. Seeking the first points of his NBA career, Nikola Jović couldn’t believe his good fortune when he found himself wide open under the basket. The Miami Heat puts up a shot attempt then recovers an offensive board in time to convert the putback opportunity. It was the only basket of the night for the 27th-overall pick in the draft, who finished with two points, two rebounds and a steal in 14 minutes of action in Miami’s 119-98 road victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on October 26, 2022.

You’ll never forget your first field goal in the NBA, so go ahead and make it as memorable as possible. Second-round draft pick Christian Koloko immediately showcases his hustle and court awareness for the Toronto Raptors, dutifully tracking teammate Pascal Siakam’s path to the basket and throwing down a monstrous putback dunk when the shot rims out. Koloko scored three points while adding six rebounds and a block in 15 energetic minutes off the bench in Toronto’s 108-105 opening-night win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 19, 2022.

He may be the Defensive Player of the Year but Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart is more than willing to step up on offensive end when his number’s called. With his team in dire need of a final bucket to bury the Brooklyn Nets in Game 2 of the First Round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Smart utilizes a quick first step to creep into the lane, setting himself up for a tough left-handed floater over the outstretched arms of three defenders. After the bucket, the two-way veteran couldn’t help but gaze at his hand in awe, and teammate Jaylen Brown joined the party. Smart hit the biggest shot of the night and helped secure the 114-107 victory on April 20, 2022, adding 12 points, five assists and a steal.

Luka Dončić coming off of a pick-and-roll is the last thing you want to see when playing the Dallas Mavericks. In a play typically saved for All-Star weekend, Dončić freezes the defense with a behind-the-back combo straight into a cross-court pass, finding Kristaps Porzingis for a crucial three-pointer on the left wing. Dončić led the way with 26 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds during the Mavericks’ 116-106 triumph over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

Full strength or not, few players can change the climate of a game or series the way Philadelphia 76ers big Joel Embiid can. After missing the first two games against the Miami Heat with an orbital fracture, Embiid returned, masked, and on a mission in Game 3. Operating out of the triple threat position, the 76ers star uses a pump fake and a tight dribble, finding space to drain a difficult and-one jumper to ignite the home crowd. This bucket proved to be one of the clinchers, giving Philadelphia a double-digit lead late in the fourth, on the way to a convincing 99-79 win on May 6, 2022. Embiid’s presence cut the series lead to 2-1, with 18 points, 11 rebounds and one block.

You’ll never forget the first bucket of your NBA career. MarJon Beauchamp earns his welcome to the league moment against the Houston Rockets, bringing the ball up the court, driving into the lane and converting a left-handed layup. The Milwaukee Bucks rookie guard and 24th overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft needed just two minutes of game time to record his first points and walked away with a 125-105 Bucks victory on October 22, 2022.

Ja Morant has a different relationship with gravity than the rest of us. The ultra springy Memphis Grizzlies guard chases down Denver Nuggets wing Will Barton in transition then bats his layup attempt off the backboard on April 19, 2021.

Fourteen seasons into his career, Los Angeles Lakers star guard Russell Westbrook still has generational athleticism. He puts it into focus on an in-and-out crossover, weaving in between two San Antonio Spursdefenders en route to a difficult jam at the rim. Westbrook produced a statline of 33 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals helping the Lakers seal the win in a 125-121 thriller on October 26, 2021.

Kawhi Leonard’s return to the lineup following a two-week absence was just what the doctor ordered for the LA Clippers. After tying the tight battle at 117 on the prior play, the two-time champion and Finals MVP stuck a dagger in the Charlotte Hornets on his squad’s next possession. Leonard grabs an inbound pass on the wing before taking one dribble and draining a step-back jumper over the outstretched fingertips of Jalen McDaniels. The always-clutch five-time All-Star tallied 16 points, six rebounds and two assists in the Clippers’ 119-117 win on December 5, 2022.

In his rise to becoming an All-Star, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland has proven he’s not afraid to battle amongst the trees against the NBA’s bigs. Showing off his tenacity and hustle, the 6-foot-1 Garland finds a way to track down a loose ball and rip it away from a much bigger Memphis Grizzlies player, then caps off the play with a high-IQ bounce pass to a teammate from the floor, setting up the highlight score. Garland was excellent in the January 4, 2022 contest, with 27 points, 10 assists, four rebounds and three triples.

Every legend has its first triumph. Down two points with a single second on the game clock in a pivotal playoff matchup, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard curls hard around a screen to catch an inbound pass deep on the perimeter, pulls up and buries a high-arcing, side-gliding triple. The game-winning three on May 2, 2014 sealed the first-round series in six games, avoiding a dreaded do-or-die battle on Houston Rockets soil.

It takes more than a hostile environment and a top-tier defense to keep Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving from churning out highlight after highlight. In a display of his advanced court vision, Irving splits the defense, drawing in four defenders, then takes to the air before delivering an on-target no-look bounce pass to the deep corner to set up an open Patty Mills three-pointer. Irving was brilliant in Game 1 against his former Boston Celtics squad, stacking 39 points, five rebounds, six assists, four steals with six threes in an April 17, 2022 playoff nail-biter.

With elite bucket-getting abilities, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has proven he’s no average rookie. With the fate of his team in his hands, Thomas attacks a hard closeout before calmly draining a game-winning, one-legged leaner to defeat the San Antonio Spurs. Thomas chipped in 11 points and six rebounds in the 121-119 overtime win on January 9, 2022.

Defending one-on-one at the elbow, Williams anticipates the shot attempt and swats the ball away, then runs the floor with determination before being rewarded with a pass and two points on the other end. The third-year man stepped up all series long, including seven points and this key block in a 115-114 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in Game 1 of the First Round on April 17, 2022.

When Minnesota Timberwolves big Karl-Anthony Towns is aggressive and in attack mode, every position from 1-through-5 is in danger. With his team holding a one-point advantage in the third, and in need of a big run to steal Game 1, Towns works a quick pick-and-roll, getting a smaller Memphis Grizzlies defender on him before spinning his way to the rim to drop a one-handed hammer in traffic. Towns opened the series with punctuation, dropping in 29 points, 13 rebounds and three assists in the 130-117 win on April 16, 2022.

When James Harden starts setting the stage for his patented stepback, defenses across the league brace for the inevitable. With a chance to drop the dagger to end Game 4, the Philadelphia 76ers guard went to his unstoppable go-to, getting a pick-and-roll switch before draining a cold-blooded triple. This capped off a vintage fourth-quarter performance, in which Harden looked every bit the part of a former league MVP. Harden scored 16 of his 31 in the final frame, adding seven rebounds, nine assists and six triples on May 8, 2022.

Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry continues to redefine what’s possible from beyond the arc – and on the dance floor – pulling up from the logo for a forty-footer three seconds into the shot clock in a February 6, 2021 tilt against the Dallas Mavericks. The icon finished with 11 triples and 57 total points on the night.

On the floor alongside a former league MVP, an MVP candidate, and multiple All-Stars, it was sophomore guard Tyrese Maxey who threw the first haymaker of the First-Round matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors. Striving to hold off another one of the Raptors’ comeback efforts, Maxey excites the crowd once more, this time punishing a hard closeout with a lightning-quick drive on the way to a difficult hanging and-one bucket. After backing Alex Caruso down toward the post, Barnes motors his way into the paint and puts Nikola Vučević on a poster with an authoritative one-handed tomahawk jam. The Bulls won the battle but Barnes’ dunk reverberated long after the November 7, 2022 matchup had ended.

Eyeing up an opportunity to hit his superstar teammate for a bucket, David Roddy whips a one-handed cross-court pass to Morant, who finishes the possession by knocking down a three-pointer. The Memphis Grizzlies rookie picked up two rebounds and an assist in his 13 minutes of professional action, a 115-112 overtime win over the New York Knicks on October 19, 2022.

With a chance to push his squad’s third-quarter lead to double figures, you know Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker wasn't going to miss. Working in sync with his teammates’ defense, the All-Star guard takes the ball in transition, slowing to read the defense before rising up for a crowd-rocking three-pointer. This proved to be one of the highlights of the Suns’ 33-14 third-quarter run, guiding them to a 110-80 win over the Dallas Mavericks on May 10, 2022. Booker led the way with 28 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Welcome to the (Jordan) Poole party. Better known for his ability to get buckets from the perimeter, this time Poole sees a hole in the defense and takes it strong to the hoop, finishing at the rim with a tough up-and-under, off-hand layup.

You think sending a double team to meet Kevin Durant in the corner is going to stop him from putting points on the board? Think again. After taking his defender off the dribble, the Brooklyn Nets superstar sets up on the baseline and buries an untouchable fadeaway. Durant dropped 38 points on 17-of-24 shooting in the October 24, 2021 affair.

Sometimes in the NBA, it’s about staying ready for when your name is ultimately called. With minimal playing time in the first four games of the Miami Heat’s First Round matchup with the Atlanta Hawks in the 2022 NBA Playoffs, two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo was asked to slide into the starting lineup for an injured Jimmy Butler in Game 5, and he delivered. Catching the defense flat-footed, Oladipo turns on the jets, using a downhill drive and a rhythmic spin move to get into the paint before finishing with a smooth, acrobatic finger roll in traffic. The explosive combo-guard led his team in scoring, dropping 23 points to go along with three steals, on the way to grittily closing out the series on April 26, 2022 with a 97-94 victory.

Second-year forward Aleksej Pokusevski’s got the confidence to get creative on the break. Hustling in transition after a deflection, the Oklahoma City Thunder youngster turns his back to the basket, catching an Orlando Magic defender off-guard before calmly sneaking in a smooth no-look bounce pass to a teammate for an easy deuce. Pokusevski did a little bit of everything, with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in a March 20, 2022 matchup.

Each postseason, there comes a young player or two that thrives on the big stage for the first time, solidifying themselves a star in the process. This year, New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram proved to be one of those players. In an effort to even the First Round series with the No. 1-seeded Phoenix Suns at 2-2, Ingram rose up literally and figuratively, calling on his own number after a failed post-entry pass attempt, spinning to the middle of the lane before taking flight with an electric one-handed contact slam to wow the crowd. With a head of steam and no defender in his airspace, Dallas Mavericks guard Spencer Dinwiddie shows how it’s done, taking off to flush home a powerful hammer to extend the lead to 15. Dinwiddie, one of the league’s best pickups at the trade deadline, poured in 20 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals in the 126-118 victory over the Utah Jazz in Game 3 of the First Round on April 21, 2022 to take a 2-1 series advantage.

When Miami Heat sharpshooter Duncan Robinson finds his rhythm, there are few sights scarier for a defense. Racing up from the baseline to the wing for a dribble-handoff, Robinson displays his dead-eye accuracy by effortlessly draining a triple while being fouled by an overly aggressive Atlanta Hawks defender. The third-year forward had a performance to remember in a 115-91 victory in Game 1 of the First Round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs on April 17, 2022, canning 27 points on eight-of-nine shooting from deep in just 22 minutes of play.

Klay Thompson may be one of the most feared shooters in NBA history, but he’s got other facets to his game he can contribute with as well. He showcases one here, leaking out on a fastbreak and facing a drive before dropping off a behind-the-back dish to a teammate for a score. Thompson played an all-around offensive game with 15 points, six assists and three triples in a 130-92 win over the Dallas Mavericks on January 25, 2022.

The mesmerizing Denver Nuggets center defies positional norms yet again on January 7, 2022, seamlessly carrying the rock the length of the floor against the Sacramento Kings, then hitting JaMychal Green in stride with a casual no-look, one-handed entry feed. Jokić finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win.

The legend of Jayson Tatum continues to grow. Now in his sixth season, the reigning All-NBA First Team selection leaves little doubt that he was born for the biggest moments. With his Boston Celtics facing a two-point deficit in the final seconds of a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tatum showcases the ice in his veins when he takes a bounce pass from Marcus Smart and drives into the lane with one goal in mind — tie the game. Tatum does just that, throwing down an emphatic slam over Jarrett Allen with 6.7 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. Tatum finished the November 2, 2022 contest with 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four blocks.

Up by one point with 10 seconds remaining, it was poetic that Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday needed to come up with a defensive stop against the recently appointed Defensive Player of the Year to save the game. Rotating over at the last second to defend a Marcus Smart layup attempt, the three-time All-Defensive Team talent shows his championship pedigree, sneaking into the play, getting both a block, and throwing the ball off his man to force an out of bounds play. That play —  and a game-winning steal just seconds later —  helped guide the Bucks to a 110-107 win to take a 3-2 edge over the Boston Celtics on May 11, 2022. Holiday had his fingerprints all over the box score with 24 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, four triples, two blocks and one steal.

OG Anunoby has steadily improved over the course of each of his five years in the league and we saw that come to life in the Toronto Raptors’ First Round series with the Philadelphia 76ers. Up 12 points late in Game 5 with momentum on his side, Anunoby sets up for the dagger, rejecting a ball screen before taking off down the right side and dropping the sledgehammer on the way to a 103-88 victory. Anunoby was versatile in the series and the win, with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists on April 25, 2022.

Whether he’s on offense or defense, if you lose track of Jaren Jackson Jr., chances are you might end up on a highlight clip. Showcasing his remarkable athleticism and defensive IQ, the Memphis Grizzlies big rotates over in two quick steps, sending a Golden State Warriors layup attempt in the other direction. With their season on the line and the Grizzlies without their All-Star, Jackson Jr. stepped up with one big play after another in a 134-95 Game 5 win on May 11, 2022.

Working to help his team keep pace with the Philadelphia 76ers in the first quarter of Game 2, Adebayo calls his own number, speeding to the rim to beat a lax defense on the way to an explosive one-handed jam. This crowd-rocking dunk helped spark a 20-9 lead, a lead they would never again relinquish on the way to a 119-103 win and 2-0 series edge. Adebayo was the catalyst with 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists on May 4, 2022.

Helping his team erase a double-digit third-quarter deficit, Otto Porter Jr. shows up with his number called, providing a desperation outlet for a teammate before raising up for a contested three-pointer against a stingy Boston Celtics defense. The off-balance bucket helped the Warriors roar back in a hard-fought game, cutting a 13-point deficit to just two. Porter contributed six points, four assists and two three-pointers in Game 3 on June 8, 2022.

With his Cleveland Cavaliers down as many as 15 points in the first half against the Boston Celtics, Mitchell cuts that number to nine with a third-quarter pump fake behind the arc leading to a ferocious slam over the 7-foot-2 Luke Kornet. Mitchell helped bring his new squad all the way back thanks to a Herculean effort of 41 points, four rebounds, three assists and five three-pointers in the 132-123 overtime victory on October 28, 2022.

Few tasks are as mentally strenuous as defending Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić in isolation. Seeking to provide his team with a 3-1 lead in Game 4, Phoenix Suns big Deandre Ayton takes on the task like a pro, mirroring him step-for-step and stretching out to send a layup attempt in the other direction. Ayton put up 14 points and 11 rebounds in the hard-fought May 8, 2022 battle.

Year after year, the Utah Jazz’s championship aspirations hinge largely on the production of their talented All-Star pair. Desperately hoping to avoid a 3-1 series deficit, it was only fitting that their pick-and-roll connection helped punctuate an exhilarating, come-from-behind 100-99 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of the First Round. With just 15 seconds remaining and the Jazz down one, All-Star Frenchman Rudy Gobert uses a slip on a pick-and-roll to make himself available for what ultimately became the game-winning alley-oop. Gobert had a monster double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, helping even the series to a 2-2 deadlock on April 23, 2022.

On a team full of tough shot makers, it always helps to have an ambitious rebounder chasing the rock off the glass. For the Memphis Grizzlies, Brandon Clarke has proven to be that guy. With Memphis trailing 106-104 with one minute to go, and in danger of falling into a 3-2 series hole, Clarke sets himself up for the game’s biggest rebound, tipping the ball out for a teammate to drain an ice-cold bucket. Hustle plays proved crucial in helping Memphis erase a 13-point fourth quarter deficit, and Clarke had them in abundance with 21 points and 15 rebounds on April 26, 2022.

When a lane presents itself against the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the prolific Miami Heat shooting guard beelines straight into the paint and unleashes a powerful one-handed slam. Wade finished the May 27, 2006 win with 35 points and stamped his ticket to his first NBA Finals.

Morris’ go-ahead bucket would prove to be the difference maker as the Nuggets held strong for the victory on April 24, 2022.

The Milwaukee Bucks were without versatile big man Brook Lopez for the majority of the regular season - to have him back and healthy for the playoffs is not taken for granted. Clinging to a two-point lead in Game 1 of the First Round, the former All-Star reminds us of his unique skill set. Selling a pump fake to get a defender off-balance, Lopez drives hard to his right before hoisting up a one-handed floater over two defenders in traffic, earning the hoop and the harm. Time and time again, fifth-year forward Maxi Kleber was up for the challenge. Up 99-98 with three minutes remaining and anxiously pushing to avoid dropping two straight at home, Kleber steadies himself along the right baseline, taking advantage of a well-timed drive-and-kick before draining a crowd-igniting three-pointer, one of his eight on the night. Kleber caught fire with 25 points on 8-of-11 from deep, six rebounds, and three assists in the 110-104 victory in Game 2 of the First Round on April 18, 2022.

When the NBA’s two highest-scoring teams meet for a playoff duel, everyone’s going to get their chance to shine. For Tyus Jones, that moment came with a chance to close the series for good. Proving ready in the final minute of a one-point game, Jones pops far along the top of the key, providing himself enough space to take a teammate’s pass and raise up for a series-clinching bucket in Game 6. That helped cap a 40-22 fourth-quarter run, guiding a come-from-behind 114-106 win on April 29, 2022, in which Jones contributed 10 points and four assists.

It may not always show up on the stat sheet but somehow, someway Kevon Looney consistently leaves an impression on the Golden State Warriors’ playoff battles. Creating hustle play after hustle play, Looney gets rewarded as a teammate draws in two Dallas Mavericks defenders before scooping a pass his way for a buzzer-beating slam. The play capped off a third quarter in which the Warriors cut the Mavericks’ 14-point halftime lead to just two. Helping his team defend home court to take a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Finals, Looney unleashed a postseason career-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, 12 rebounds and two assists in the 126-117 triumph on May 20, 2022.

A finalist for the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award, Phoenix Suns guard Mikal Bridges is capable of making life difficult for any perimeter player across the NBA landscape. Rotating over to contest a shot attempt from a New Orleans Pelicans guard, Bridges uses his 7-foot-1 wingspan to swat a layup attempt, and then again seconds later on a putback try. Taking on a little extra offensive responsibility with teammate Devin Booker out with an injury, Bridges had a night to remember in Game 5 of the First Round dropping a playoff career-high 31 points on just 17 shots, five rebounds, four blocks and four triples in the 112-97 win on April 26, 2022.

When Jayson Tatum is locked in on the rim, the buckets flow freely. The Boston Celtics star steps back into a high-release three-pointer late in a matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. Tatum’s three gave his squad a lead in a game that they would ultimately proceed to win in overtime. Tatum finished the April 30, 2021 contest with a career-high 60 points.

Even if you knew what Nikola Jokic was about to do next, good luck trying to stop it. The bruising Denver Nuggets center works against his defender with his back to the basket then pivots into a hook shot in a 50-point showing against the Sacramento Kings on February 6, 2021.
