After screening for teammate Tony Parker, Duncan calls for a feed, gathers himself with a power dribble then plants a far-reaching, one-handed slam over a pair of Dallas Mavericks defenders. The San Antonio Spurs big man finished the May 7, 2006 playoff contest with 31 points and 13 rebounds.

Give him that much room and Karl-Anthony Towns is going to bury it. After setting a screen for point guard D’Angelo Russell, the Minnesota Timberwolves center finds himself wide open at the top of the three-point line. From the moment he arrived in the NBA, LeBron James has feasted on errant passes, and here he does it twice. Rotating over to help cover a pick-and-roll, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar hustles into a passing lane to corral a steal, setting himself up for a one-man transition and a baby windmill slam. With the subtlety of a Terminator in hot pursuit, LeBron James has redefined the chase-down rejection. Sights set on R.J. Hampton in transition, the Los Angeles Lakers forward directs teammate Austin Reaves to pick up and distract the ballhandler, freeing himself just enough time to trail back and obliterate a shot attempt off glass. James finished the December 12, 2021 contest with 30 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and one unmistakable warning that no layup is safe until it's entirely through the hoop.

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, already an all-time chasedown block artist, picks up a surging Collin Sexton in transition then launches his layup attempt to the scorers’ table in a January 25, 2021 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He’s still making it look easy! Now in his 18th NBA season, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers gets out on the break and throws down a fierce one-handed jam early in the third quarter of their opening night matchup against the LA Clippers on December 22, 2020.

“So quick, so fast, a lot of length as well…” Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant “can do anything.” In one of KD’s favorite plays of the season, Morant showcases some craft and guile, using a behind-the-back and a pump fake to get a LA Clippers big into the air before ducking under to float in a seemingly effortless off-hand, up-and-under scoop finish. Morant shined under California’s bright lights with a 28-point and eight-assist performance to power Memphis to a 120-114 win on October 23, 2021.

In his rise toward superstardom, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has become most-known for his three-point shooting and the fear it strikes in opposing defenses. That said, you don’t become a multi-time NBA champion without knowing how to make critical plays on the defensive end, too. Taking on the challenge of guarding Memphis Grizzlies’ guard Ja Morant with the game down to a single shot, Curry mirrors him perfectly before meeting him at the launch point for a game-saving block. The two-time MVP chipped in with 24 points, five triples, three rebounds and four assists helping the Warriors throw the first haymaker of the series with a 117-116 win on May 1, 2022.

“Nikola Jokić. League MVP for a reason.” Kevin Durant narrates one from his favorite plays of the season from the game-changing Denver Nuggets center as Jokić gets open for an inbound pass, catches it at the top of the perimeter, quickly squares up and fires a high-flying triple over the Portland Trail Blazers’ Jusuf Nurkić. The reigning MVP notched 28 points and flirted with a triple double in an emphatic win at home on November 14, 2021.

The pressure of your first NBA bucket can be immense — especially when you’re the first overall pick. Detroit Pistons 2021 draftee Cade Cunningham catches a pass at the arc and immediately blows by his defender and through the lane to lay one in with his left. Detroit walked away with the win in the rookie’s NBA debut on October 30, 2021.

When Anthony Edwards gets out in transition, “there’s nothing you can do to stop him.” KD narrates ones of his top plays from Edwards this season as the Minnesota Timberwolves guard drops a swift in-and-out crossover combo to get by the initial defender, then takes no prisoners at the rim with a dynamic dunk over the last line of defense. Minnesota’s budding star had a huge night in 40 minutes of action against the New Orleans Pelicans on October 25, 2021: 28 points, nine rebounds and three dimes.

In his short time as a Charlotte Hornets star, LaMelo Ball has proven there’s no situation he can’t make a highlight out of. Mixing hustle, IQ, and creativity into one play, Ball tips the loose ball to himself before being met by a Milwaukee Bucks defender, then, without hesitation, fires a behind-the-back, on-the-money bounce pass to his big man for an easy reverse jam. Ball’s box score was equally brilliant, as the All-Star guard chipped in 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in a 114-106 win over the defending champs on January 8, 2022.

What a finish! NBA legend and Atlanta Hawks veteran Vince Carter drills what could be his last three pointer in the dying seconds against the New York Knicks on March 11, 2020. Even after 22 seasons, he's still half-man, half-amazing.

There are three-point shooters who change games, and three-point shooters who change the game. Steph Curry is definitively the latter. In a home opener to kick off another potential MVP season, the Golden State Warriors guard pushes the ball up the court and heaves it to a teammate in the corner. Curry then chases his own pass and calls for the ball back to sink a high-flying, catch-and-shoot triple. The seven-time All-Star hit his first 10 field goals of the night on October 21, 2021, while pouring in 25 of his 45 points in the first quarter alone.

There’s a bright future for rookies with elite creativity on the court. In his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets, first-year guard Jalen Green sprints to catch a pass near the perimeter and continues toward the hoop as several defenders mark him. Meeting Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns at the rim, Green goes up and under in midair for an acrobatic reverse layup - the first bucket of his career - on October 20, 2021.

Draymond Green’s a true extension of his coach on the floor, able to make reads on the fly and adjust accordingly to create a positive result for his squad. Here, the Golden State Warriors All-Star brings the ball up, directs traffic and motions his teammate to cut to the basket in time for a perfect feed. Green dropped six points, pulled down seven rebounds and had six assists in a 126-112 win over the Washington Wizards on March 14, 2022.

Devin Booker is “just so crafty with the ball”. In one of Kevin Durant’s top plays of the season from one of his favorite players, the Phoenix Suns All-Star guard takes on his Dallas Mavericks defender at the top of the key, then spins into the paint to find 7-foot-3 Kristaps Porziņģis between himself and the rim. Booker executes a flawless up-and-under as he falls to the floor and gets it to go off the glass for two of his 24 points in a 105-98 victory on November 17, 2021.

Oh, Luka! Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Dončić nails the clutch stepback three pointer to win game 4 of their opening round matchup against the LA Clippers and tie the series at two games apiece on August 23, 2020.

With his team in danger of dropping two series-opening games on their home floor, Ja Morant decided it was time to score by any means, even if it meant putting a defender on that very floor. Trailing 99-98 with under two minutes to go, the Memphis Grizzlies guard calls an isolation before slicing a Golden State Warriors defender with a rhythmic-crossover-half-spin combination before dropping in a floater to give his team a lead they would never again surrender. Morant added to his big-game profile on May 3, 2022, with 47 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a 106-101 win to tie the series at one game apiece.

Derrick Rose’s insane speed and athleticism has made him an underrated shot blocker at the point guard spot. The New York Knicks guard stays with his man off the ball and leaps to reject his layup into the baseline stands. The former MVP was very effective with 16 points and six assists off the bench in a December 2, 2021 matchup against the Chicago Bulls.

Donovan Mitchell is “one of the best scorers in the league” and his signature step-back is “elite.” In one of KD’s favorite plays of the season, Mitchell disguises a strong drive to the rim, then crosses back beyond the arc before splashing a triple over the outstretched arms of the defender. The Utah Jazz go-to guy finished with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in a November 11, 2021 matchup with the Indiana Pacers.

Picking up reigning NBA champ Giannis Antetokounmpo at halfcourt, Philadelphia 76ers sophomore forward Paul Reed tracks the two-time MVP as he makes a break for the rim. Reed comes up big, swatting a layup attempt off the backboard for one of his two blocks on November 9, 2021.

Some of Zach LaVine’s most exciting slams come via action on the baseline. LaVine sizes up his defender, makes a swift spin move to get around him and goes up for a powerful, one-handed jam that rocks the rim. The Chicago Bulls All-Star contributed 26 points, five rebounds and three assists in a 126-115 victory over the Orlando Magic on February 1, 2022.

When the Golden State Warriors get a numbers advantage on the break, it’s wise to get your cameras ready. Taking advantage of a teammate’s excellent defense, Warriors rookie forward Jonathan Kuminga leaks out in transition, outrunning each of the Sacramento Kings players down the floor before starting up his own in-game Slam Dunk Contest with a show-stopping reverse cradle jam. Kuminga had highlights in abundance with 18 points, seven rebounds and a steal in a 126-114 victory on February 3, 2022.

Guarding Paul George is no small feat, especially for a young player not used to his play style. George goes right at his mismatched rookie defender, flashing his handle with a crossover behind his legs, then pivots into a beautiful spinning jumper. The LA Clippers star flirted with a triple-double in a 119-115 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on December 3, 2021, finishing with 19 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and two steals.

It’s not just the athleticism, it’s the attitude. Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards shows no fear taking off from the three-point line to run up and plaster a massive slam on the Golden State Warriors on January 25, 2021.

Fueled by competitiveness and his basketball IQ, there are no matchups too big for Golden State Warriors defensive powerhouse Draymond Green. Holding a 116-111 lead in the fourth quarter of Game 3 of the First Round, everyone in the arena knew where the Denver Nuggets would go with the ball next. Outsized by a skilled and strong Nikola Jokić, Green stands his ground before perfectly timing a reach to come up with a game-sealing steal to push his team to a 118-113 win and a 3-0 series lead. The six-time All-Defensive teamer was everywhere on April 21, 2022 with six points, five rebounds, 10 assists and two steals.

Making an impact on a playoff-hopeful squad is no easy feat for a rookie — just don’t tell that to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. In his NBA debut, the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, catches a behind-the-back bounce pass from teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson and steps back behind the arc to launch a confident three for his first-career bucket. Kuminga walked away with a Warriors win and the game ball on October 30, 2021.
