The historic bucket came as effortlessly as the thousands that preceded it as the three-time champion and two-time league MVP shed his defender in the post with an off-ball cut to the perimeter knowing that the Golden State Warriors predicated an entire dynasty on the idea of getting the ball in their superstar's hands beyond the arc. Curry's milestone triple fell in the first quarter of a December 14, 2021 contest at Madison Square Garden.

The Milwaukee Bucks have been particularly stingy during the 2022-23 campaign, but that doesn’t matter when LeBron James finds Davis on a kickout behind the arc. The eight-time All-Star breezes by Brook Lopez with a head fake before barreling toward the bucket and dropping the hammer with a powerful dunk. Davis’ season-high of 44 points — along with 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks — carved up the Bucks’ vaunted defense in a thrilling 133-129 upset victory on December 2, 2022.

These are words to live by for Kevon Looney, as the Golden State Warriors big man got to play the role of double overtime savior against a feisty Atlanta Hawks squad. When Klay Thompson — who scored 54 points in the game — had a rare misfire, this game seemed destined for a third extra frame until Looney positioned himself for the putback try. Looney’s first attempt is off the mark, but he stays with the ball and gets another opportunity, this time laying it in as time expires. Looney’s 14 points, 20 rebounds and four assists were a major catalyst in Golden State’s 143-141 triumph on January 2, 2023.

Donvan Mitchell’s honeymoon with the Cleveland Cavaliers continued against the Los Angeles Lakers. Taking advantage of a favorable one-on-one matchup with Austin Reaves, Mitchell hits his defender with some slick dribbles before suddenly pulling up for a stepback triple that helps the Cavs pull away late in the fourth quarter. Mitchell logged his second 40-point performance of the season, posting 43 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in Cleveland’s 116-102 triumph on December 6, 2022.

Here, Morant adds to that reel, leaping to snag a 94-foot inbound pass from the other side of the court and draining a buzzer-beating alley-oop jumpshot all in one motion. That was one of many plays Morant made, as he burned the San Antonio Spurs for a franchise-record 52 points and seven rebounds in a 118-105 win on February 28, 2022.

When he’s in the zone, Kevin Durant isn’t just a threat — he’s unguardable. The Brooklyn Nets superstar works his way through the Detroit Pistons defense from the perimeter through the key and to the hoop for an up-and-under reverse layup that banks in off the glass. The basket counted for two of Durant’s 51 points, marking it as an NBA season high at the time on December 12, 2021.

At the heart of the Brooklyn Nets’ unforgettable push to contend for a title is nine-time All-Star and franchise catalyst Kevin Durant. Durant runs the floor as his teammates work in masterful lockstep to recover a steal against the Cleveland Cavaliers then rises up to throw down an off-glass alley-oop from teammate Mike James. Durant finished the May 16, 2021 contest with 23 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists.

Whether he’s shooting a three or driving to the lane, when Steph Curry has the ball, he commands a defense’s full attention. Here, he frees himself with a quick crossover before using his gravity and basketball IQ to fake a layup attempt before dishing a smooth behind-the-back dime to star teammate Draymond Green. Curry stuffed the stat sheet with 33 points, five rebounds, six assists and six steals in a 105-90 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on November 28, 2021.

A three-time All-Star and All-NBA First Team selection all by the age of 23 — somehow Luka Dončić still has higher to climb to reach his ceiling. Though that prospect may be hard to believe, the Brooklyn Nets got the full experience on October 27, 2022. Dončić reminds everybody that he can score every which way, from step-back triples to impossible-to-defend dribble drives that result in easy layups and floaters. The fifth-year star also remains an elite facilitator, as he nonchalantly sets up his teammates with a plethora of highlight-reel passes: an over-the-head no-look dish to Maxi Kleber, a spin-turned-kickout to Tim Hardaway Jr. and a behind-the-back dropoff to Reggie Bullock. When the final horn sounded, the Dallas Mavericks walked off with a 129-125 overtime road victory thanks to 41 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists and three steals from Dončić, becoming just the 10th player in NBA history to record three 40-point triple-doubles.

It’s Year 15 and Kevin Durant can still make jaws hit the floor with his ability to dominate a basketball game. The Orlando Magic were the 12-time All-Star’s latest victim, as Durant picks them apart in a variety of ways — on offense, he reaches into his bag of tricks for a one-handed floater off the glass, a spot-up triple, a dribble-drive into a baseline fall-away jumper and an open mid-range shot off a behind-the-back maneuver. The two-time champion and Finals MVP comes up big on the defensive end as well, turning a rebound into a long outlet dish to Joe Harris while also blocking a shot and picking Franz Wagner’s pocket at halfcourt en route to a slam. When it was over, Durant lit Orlando up for 45 points on 19-of-24 shooting while also chipping in seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in the 109-102 win on November 28, 2022. 

Put together spectacular performances against the Los Angeles Lakers, and there will always be a special place for you in Boston Celtics history. Hunting down an errant pass, All-Star forward Jayson Tatum takes full advantage of the opportunity, first by attacking a passing lane, then reeling off a pair of crafty dribble moves to gather his way into a fastbreak slam. With all eyes watching on November 19, 2021, Tatum dropped the star-studded rivals with an efficient 37 points, 11 boards, four triples and three steals.

Make no mistake, Steph Curry can get it done from anywhere on the court. Identifying a gap in the Dallas Mavericks zone, Curry carves his way straight to the rim, slicing through the paint and finishing through his defender with a clutch up-and-under finger roll off glass. After the whistle, Curry beats his chest in triumph with long-time running mate Klay Thompson. Curry led the Golden State Warriors in the Game 1 victory on May 20, 2022 with 32 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

While the Los Angeles Lakers have endured a slow start to the 2022-23 season, the same cannot be said for Anthony Davis. Now in his fourth season in Tinseltown, the eight-time All-Star treats the Phoenix Suns to a vintage performance of total domination in which he impacts every facet of the game. The 2020 NBA champion unselfishly distributes to his teammates, mercilessly blocks shots and creates steals on the defensive end while muscling his way to an enormous quantity of rebounds. Davis scores at will too, from strong drives to the hoop to cleaning up messes under the glass. Doing it all for the Lakers on both ends with LeBron James unavailable, Davis poured in 37 points on 11-of-17 from the field and 15-for-16 from the line, chipping in an absurd 21 boards, two assists, five steals and five blocks in the November 22, 2022 divisional showdown.

There are no words to adequately describe Ja Morant’s aerial antics, his explosiveness or that uncanny ability to posterize opponents that tower over him. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar pushes his dribble ahead then goes above and beyond for one of the most vicious monster jams you’ll ever see over a seven-footer. Morant’s amazing highlight was part of an historic night in a 118-105 win over the San Antonio Spurs on February 28, 2022: he recorded the first 50-point game in franchise history with a career-high 52 points.

When Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Dončić gets his feet set for his signature fadeaway, you’d better be ready to catch it out of the net. Dončić gave the Boston Celtics dejà vu with two game-winners from the same spot in the same year. Here he drives left, gets to his spot and drains a cold-blooded stepback game-winning three-pointer with three opponents in his airspace. Dončić had 33 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 107-104 victory on November 6, 2021.

Steph Curry’s shooting and scoring abilities get their just praise — but how about some love for the way the Golden State Warriors star gets his buckets? Granted an opportunity to strike from the corner, Curry sets his sight on the rim, splitting two defenders with a smooth behind-the-back maneuver, then finishes at the cup with a layup. The four-time champion scores two of his game-high 24 points on the play while also chipping in six rebounds, 10 assists, two steals and five triples in his squad’s 111-101 win on November 18, 2022.

Most players spend an entire career never hitting the 50-point threshold. Devin Booker got there in three quarters. In yet another display of unfathomable scoring ability, the Phoenix Suns superstar absolutely torches the Chicago Bulls in every possible way — on dribble drive layups and pull-up jumpers, stepback and spot-up three-pointers, post-up fadeaways and a steal that becomes a coast-to-coast throwdown, just to name a few. When the third quarter was finished, Booker had accumulated 51 points on 20-of-25 from the field and 6-for-7 from downtown, pairing that with four rebounds, six assists and a steal in 31 minutes in Phoenix’s 132-113 runaway victory on November 30, 2022. 

As soon as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander steps onto the court, he’s a bonafide threat to score. With the Oklahoma City Thunder up by three with a minute to go against the Los Angeles Lakers, the smooth rising star delivered a dagger, pulling up from the logo to secure the victory. Gilgeous-Alexander led all teammates with 28 points and six assists in a 107-104 triumph on November 4, 2021.

Sometimes the best look is the one looking back at you off the glass. Without a passing lane in sight, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis underhands the ball off the backboard from the top of the paint and follows after it for an easy flush. The legend of Jayson Tatum continues to grow. Now in his sixth season, the reigning All-NBA First Team selection leaves little doubt that he was born for the biggest moments. With his Boston Celtics facing a two-point deficit in the final seconds of a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tatum showcases the ice in his veins when he takes a bounce pass from Marcus Smart and drives into the lane with one goal in mind — tie the game. Tatum does just that, throwing down an emphatic slam over Jarrett Allen with 6.7 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. Tatum finished the November 2, 2022 contest with 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four blocks.

Going into a tough overtime battle with an All-Star teammate on the mend and a talented center fouled out might have been too much to handle for many NBA talents. For Devin Booker, it proved to be another chance to showcase greatness. Amped up with a chance to seal a game against the Sacramento Kings, the talented two-guard calmly works to his spot before pulling up for a game-clinching fallaway bucket. The picturesque jumper capped off one of Booker’s signature performances, on the way to a 127-124 victory on March 20, 2022. The All-Star guard put in 31 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two three-pointers and a steal in the contest. 

A healthy Anthony Davis is double trouble for the opposition. Playing in his first game since an injury forced him to shut it down early a season ago, Davis proves just how scary he can be against the defending champion Golden State Warriors. First, the eight-time All-Star deposits a difficult floater off an inbound pass, then uses all of his lengthy 6-foot-10 frame to pick off a lazy Steph Curry pass on the ensuing trip up the floor. Davis then beats everyone in a race to the hoop, dropping in a layup while absorbing contact for an and-one opportunity. The Warriors won the game, but Los Angeles Lakers fans have to be feeling good about Davis’ 27-point, six-rebound, four-steal effort on October 18, 2022.

On a nightly basis, Nikola Jokić makes the difficult look routine. The two-time reigning MVP has something special planned for the Houston Rockets, catching the ball in the post before burying a turnaround baseline jumper in rhythm on just one foot. The four-time All-Star tormented the Rockets all night, scoring 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting — his third time hitting 30 points in the past four games — while also grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out eight assists in the Denver Nuggets’ 129-113 victory on November 28, 2022.

If Kevin Durant is on your heels in transition, you better hope he’s not able to catch up in time! The Brooklyn Nets superstar sprints back in transition following an errant pass from a teammate, catches up to his opponent and fully engulfs the ball with a spectacular rejection at the basket. Durant dropped a team-high 26 points, along with six assists and three blocks in a home matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies on January 3, 2022.

He didn’t hit the game-winning shot, but Malik Beasley still found a way to be a hero twice. Down by four points in the closing seconds, things looked bleak for the Utah Jazz before Beasley hit a clutch triple to pull his squad within one. And he wasn’t done either — after Nickeil Alexander-Walker picks Jordan Poole’s pocket on the ensuing inbound play, Beasley scoops up the loose ball and fires a perfect bounce pass to Simone Fontecchio for the go-ahead slam with 1.4 seconds left on the clock. Beasley finished with 18 points, three rebounds, one clutch assist and four three-pointers in Utah’s thrilling 124-123 win over the Golden State Warriors on December 7, 2022.

Ever the competitor, Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown hasn’t seen many at-the-rim matchups that he couldn’t win. Splitting his way through a pair of ball screens, the All-Star guard creates an open runway to the rim and puts a Dallas Mavericks center on a poster with a vicious contact jam. Brown chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in a March 13, 2022 matchup.

Fresh off achieving a national championship in college, Christian Braun has brought an unselfish, winning style of basketball with him to the Denver Nuggets. Against the Utah Jazz, the rookie shows he’s willing to do whatever it takes to secure a victory, fearlessly stepping in front of Malik Beasley to turn a wide-open dunk into a ferocious rejection. Braun continued to make an impact off the Nuggets bench, chipping in 10 points, six rebounds, an assist and a block in Denver’s 117-101 triumph on October 28, 2022.

In just his sixth professional game, Mark Williams gave the Charlotte Hornets an exciting glimpse into their future. Making his Top Shot debut, the 15th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft sends a Josh Giddey shot into the crowd with a merciless rejection at the rim. Williams shot a sparkling 7-for-7 for a career-high 17 points and 13 rebounds, along with two assists, two steals and two blocks in 21 productive minutes off the bench in his squad’s 121–113 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 29, 2022.

This is why you follow your shot! After a missed free throw, Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid notices his teammate coming away with the rock, then absolutely torpedoes to the rim with a devastating, one-handed throwdown over Jarrett Allen. The MVP candidate was incredible in a 103-93 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 12, 2022, leading the charge with a ridiculous triple-double of 40 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.

Charging straight into the lane against three San Antonio Spurs defenders is not for the faint of heart — but it is for Zion Williamson. The New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward scoops up a bounce pass on the elbow and makes his move, putting the ball on the floor and muscling his way to a layup despite spinning his way into a traffic jam underneath the basket. Williamson poured in a season-high 32 points on 14-of-18 from the field to go along with 11 rebounds and two steals in his squad’s 129-110 win on November 23, 2022.

The NBA is better with a healthy Victor Oladipo on the court. The two-time All-Star has battled injuries the past couple of seasons but looks like his old self with the Miami Heat, blowing right by Kelly Olynyk on a drive to the hoop before taking flight and unleashing a thunderous slam over skilled shot-blocking rookie Walker Kessler. Oladipo was a spark plug off the bench for the Heat, chipping in 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and four three-pointers during a 35-minute run in Miami’s 126-123 victory over the Utah Jazz on December 31, 2022.

DeMar DeRozan doesn’t miss much, but when he does it’s good to have Ayo Dosunmu around. With the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks deadlocked at 108, DeRozan tries to play the role of hero with a tough turnaround jumper over DeAndre Hunter. When the attempt comes up short and John Collins fails to snare the board, an opportunistic Dosunmu is in the perfect spot at the right time to scoop up the loose ball and lay it in before time expires. The second-year guard tallied nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in Chicago’s thrilling 110-108 win on December 21, 2022.

Seeking to put away a top-tier defense in the playoffs on their home floor, you're going to need a scorer who mixes confidence, talent, and creativity. Look no further than Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum. With 1.4 left on the play clock and the Celtics holding an eight-point advantage late in the fourth, Tatum uses a nifty fake pivot and spin, creating enough space for him to rise up for a cold-blooded bucket over the outstretched arms of a Miami Heat defender. Tatum also made good on a past Boston Celtics all-time great forward, becoming the first-ever Larry Bird Eastern Conference MVP winner, with 26 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, four triples and two blocks in a series-clinching 100-96 victory on May 29, 2022.

Never underestimate James Harden’s ability to come up with creative new ways of making plays for his Philadelphia 76ers teammates. Back in Houston on the court he called home for parts of nine seasons, the 2018 MVP shifts into facilitator mode when he whips a low-to-the-ground bounce pass to a cutting Shake Milton, who finishes the possession with an easy layup. The 10-time All-Star managed 21 points, four rebounds, seven assists, two steals and four triples in Philly’s overtime battle against the Houston Rockets on December 5, 2022.

Joel Embiid is an unstoppable force on offense but don’t lose sight of what he brings to the table as a rim protector. Up in the final seconds of a close game against the Chicago Bulls, the Philadelphia 76ers center surveys the floor from his position as a help-side defender, leaps into action as DeMar DeRozan beats his defender, then challenges the powerful dunk threat with an epic rejection at the rim. In addition to the clutch block, Embiid poured in 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a 103-98 victory on November 3, 2021.

When Klay Thompson’s on a heater, let him cook. The Golden State Warriors are happy to oblige as a vintage lights-out shooting performance from Thompson was just what they needed to snap an eight-game road losing skid to open the season. Against the Houston Rockets, the five-time All-Star grabs a pass from Steph Curry and lets it fly — one of his 10 made three-pointers in 13 attempts. Thompson exploded for a season-high 41 points on 14-for-23 shooting while adding four rebounds, three assists and two steals in Golden State’s 127-120 win on November 20, 2022.

Looking for their fifth win in six games, the seven-time All-Star drives the ball up the floor with a head of steam, faking a pass to Joe Harris on the wing before dropping in a high-arcing floater over his defender’s fingertips. Irving’s game-high 33 points on 14 of 24 shooting — along with five rebounds, nine assists and four blocks — were too much for the Charlotte Hornets to handle as the Nets claimed a 122-116 victory on December 7, 2022.

Almost a quarter of the way into the 2022-23 season, one thing has become clear — if Jericho Sims is on the court, he’s probably going to dunk on you. The New York Knicks’ reserve center continues to be his squad’s resident alley-oop recipient, this time against the Utah Jazz as he gets teed up for a perfectly-executed lob from Immanuel Quickley. The second-year big man was strong in 25 productive minutes, making 5-of-7 field-goal attempts for 11 points, while adding 13 rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Knicks’ 118-111 road win on November 15, 2022.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s breakout campaign continues in Year 5 and the rest of the league is feeling its effect. Taking advantage of a favorable one-on-one matchup, the Oklahoma City Guard torments a Denver Nuggets defender with an array of dizzying handles before an ankle-breaking behind-the-back maneuver sends him to the hardwood. Gilgeous-Alexander buries the jumper for two of his 31 points while also contributing seven rebounds, 11 assists and two steals in the November 23, 2022 overtime thriller. 

If you’re only going to make one shot, might as well make it a game-winner. Clinging to a one-point lead in the closing seconds, the Dallas Mavericks fail to cover Brook Lopez on the inbound play and the veteran center makes them pay, catching a lob from George Hill and laying it off the glass with 7.1 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Milwaukee Bucks. With Giannis Antetokounmpo on the bench with six fouls, Lopez’s lone field goal was crucial in Milwaukee’s fourth consecutive win, and his four points, six rebounds and three blocks got the job done in the 106-105 victory on December 9, 2022.

New season, same results for Andrew Wiggins and the Golden State Warriors. Fresh off a transformative title run a season ago, Wiggins and company are back to defend the crown. Against an overmatched Sacramento Kings squad, the 2022 All-Star shows last year’s postseason run was no fluke, stepping into a passing lane and picking off a lazy pass. Wiggins is off to the races from there, finishing the fast break with a slam en route 24 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks in Golden State’s 130-125 victory on October 23, 2022.

The 2022-23 campaign has been a renaissance for the Sacramento Kings, with De’Aaron Fox now the king of the fourth quarter. Locked in a tight game at home against the Utah Jazz, the point guard blows by Collin Sexton before unleashing a merciless poster dunk over Kelly Olynyk despite giving up eight inches in the exchange. Fox scored at least 10 points in the fourth quarter for the fourth straight contest and, for the game, contributed 24 points, three rebounds and 10 assists in Sacramento’s December 30, 2022 win. It was the Kings’ 19th win of the year, a mark they didn’t reach until Feb. 2 the prior season.

There’s no better way to cap off a perfectly executed sideline inbound play than with a silky smooth Devin Booker triple. The Phoenix Suns guard joins teammates Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton in executing a three-quarter court scheme, collects the rock as time ticks down, loses his defender with a pump fake, then gets his shot up as the buzzer sounds. Booker finished Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals with 31 points on June 28, 2021.

The key to a 5-0 start to your season is making the smart play. Now in his 14th season, Jrue Holiday is a master of his craft, using a time-tested handle to gain access to the lane while drawing the Atlanta Hawks’ defense toward him. With three defenders now in the vicinity, the Milwaukee Bucks point guard dishes a last-minute dime to a wide open Brook Lopez for a corner three-pointer. Holiday’s 34 points, two rebounds, 12 assists and four steals kept his squad unbeaten in a 123-115 victory on October 29, 2022.

While we see Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown take it to the rack time and time again, that’s not the only way he can impress with the ball in his hands. After popping out to meet a pass at the perimeter, he gives a New Orleans Pelicans defender a floor seat, using a pump-fake, behind-the-back combo before setting up an open teammate for a highlight slam. Brown was all business, with 31 points and four triples in a 107-97 victory on January 29, 2022.

Anthony Davis may have scored 55 points, but he was still powerless to stop a soaring Daniel Gafford. After three point-blank misses at one end, the Washington Wizards push the tempo with numbers in their favor. With Davis the lone defender in a 2-on-1, Corey Kispert throws up a lob and Gafford does the rest, catching the alley-oop with his hand well behind his head before tomahawking his way around the defenseless big man. Gafford could hardly miss, shooting 9-for-10 for 19 points, adding in seven rebounds and two blocks on December 4, 2022.

The Utah Jazz didn’t learn their lesson the first time they tried to trespass in Deandre Ayton’s paint, so he was more than willing to remind them again. Mike Conley gains access to the lane with a pretty crossover move but fails to account for the Phoenix Suns’ center, who viciously denies the attempt. When the deflection falls into Conley’s hands again, he decides to give it another shot and is promptly denied. The Suns lost a heartbreaker, but Ayton pulled his weight with 17 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks on November 18, 2022.

Give me that! Brook Lopez has no time for Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green’s drive to the hoop, literally ripping the ball out of Green’s hands in his attempt to score and needing only one arm to do so. It was a block party for the Milwaukee Bucks’ 15-year veteran, who swatted five shots in the October 22, 2022 contest. The seven-footer did a little bit of everything for the Bucks — in addition to the five blocks, Lopez scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists, grabbed two steals and sank a trio of three-pointers in Milwaukee’s runaway 125-105 victory.

There’s efficiency… and then there’s Grant Williams. As his Boston Celtics opened the 2022-23 campaign defending their Eastern Conference crown, Williams brought with him some of last season’s magic. Coming off the bench against the rival Philadelphia 76ers, Williams refused to miss, pump faking Shake Milton out of his sneakers while sinking a corner three-pointer. Williams made all five of his field goal attempts — including three triples — along with a rebound and assist in Boston’s 126-117 victory on October 18, 2022.

Appreciate stars that get it done on both ends. Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown battles for a steal in a March 19, 2021 tilt against the Sacramento Kings then chases down the loose ball and caps the play off with an uncontested slam.

Jaren Jackson Jr. made sure that it would be a happy New Year for the Memphis Grizzlies. Kicking off 2023 in style, Jackson Jr. protects the rim with vigor against the Sacramento Kings when he blocks a driving Malik Monk not once but twice. The Grizzlies’ talented fifth-year power forward made magic happen on both ends of the court, tallying 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three rejections in helping his squad win its third consecutive game, a 118-108 decision on January 1, 2023.
