The Miami Heat guard chipped in 22 points and five assists in a 105-94 loss on December 13, 2021.

The Toronto Raptors rookie flashes his do-it-all talent in this possession, taking his defender off the dribble, getting to his spot inside the paint and floating a lefty finish that finds the bottom of the net. In a home opener to kick off another potential MVP season, the Golden State Warriors guard pushes the ball up the court and heaves it to a teammate in the corner. Curry then chases his own pass and calls for the ball back to sink a high-flying, catch-and-shoot triple. The seven-time All-Star hit his first 10 field goals of the night on October 21, 2021, while pouring in 25 of his 45 points in the first quarter alone.

There’s a bright future for rookies with elite creativity on the court. In his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets, first-year guard Jalen Green sprints to catch a pass near the perimeter and continues toward the hoop as several defenders mark him. Meeting Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns at the rim, Green goes up and under in midair for an acrobatic reverse layup - the first bucket of his career - on October 20, 2021.

Picking up reigning NBA champ Giannis Antetokounmpo at halfcourt, Philadelphia 76ers sophomore forward Paul Reed tracks the two-time MVP as he makes a break for the rim. Just weeks into his NBA career, Josh Giddey has NBA fans and superstars alike buzzing about his movement of the ball. In his first regular season game with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the rook demonstrates masterful handles, simultaneously losing his defender and drawing two more before floating the rock to a teammate for a layup. In addition to his smooth maneuvers on the court, Giddey locked in 10 rebounds in his debut on October 20, 2021.

Making an impact on a playoff-hopeful squad is no easy feat for a rookie — just don’t tell that to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. In his NBA debut, the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, catches a behind-the-back bounce pass from teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson and steps back behind the arc to launch a confident three for his first-career bucket. In a play typically saved for All-Star weekend, Dončić freezes the defense with a behind-the-back combo straight into a cross-court pass, finding Kristaps Porzingis for a crucial three-pointer on the left wing. Dončić led the way with 26 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds during the Mavericks’ 116-106 triumph over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

The ability to make tough shots cannot be taught. Denver Nuggets rookie Bones Hyland shows no fear in going 1-on-1 with his defender and puts on a series of moves, hesitations and fakes. Despite stout defense, Hyland still converts a leaning, one-handed fadeaway going left. That’s tough. The Boston Celtics star puts on a dribbling clinic in a series of maneuvers before losing his defender with a quick spin move and explosive finish at the hoop. Ball on a string. Some rookies are just fearless from the jump. In his first regular season game with the Indiana Pacers, Chris Duarte attempts to lose his defender with a sidestep and a pump fake. With his man still on him and seconds left on the clock, Duarte pulls up for a jumper and beats the buzzer to nail a three, capping off an 11 point quarter. He shined in his debut with 27 points and five rebounds on October 20, 2021.

With his new squad, Gary Payton II has made a game out of putting anyone willing to jump with him on a poster. Following an outlet pass from Draymond Green, Payton II throws an emphatic slam down over Kelly Oubre Jr. — one of the many outstanding highlights from the Golden State Warriors’ November 3, 2021 W over the Charlotte Hornets. With time fast expiring in the first quarter, Mann fearlessly takes one step toward the basket then steps back to sink a long jumper over Gobert’s outstretched arm in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard hits a lightning-quick right-to-left crossover, corkscrewing a scoop shot over the arms of both Kent Bazemore and Anthony Davis. It was one of many highlights from a 40-point, 10-assist masterpiece against the Los Angeles Lakers on October 24, 2021.

Golden State Warriors center Kevon Looney flies in to corral a deflected rebound and has the presence of mind to finish a difficult layup, to help the Warriors take the lead, with under 14 seconds left to play. Looney had a strong outing in Golden State’s 102-100 victory over the Indiana Pacers on December 13, 2021 with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a game-winning putback.

On the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 27, 2021, Memphis Grizzlies first-year forward Santi Aldama collects a pass with no one near him. It’s hard to disrupt the smooth, even-keeled approach Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane brings to the table. Bane rips through his defender on the perimeter and reverses back with a spin dribble into a driving slam with one hand. Memphis’s talented second-year guard scored 29 points and pulled down nine boards in the team’s 97-90 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on December 4, 2021.

Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent is better known for his three-point shooting, but his “first career dunk,” as he calls it, is one for the books. The Washington Wizards defense clears the runway, allowing him a free lane to the basket for a two-handed slam. Vincent did a little bit of everything in this game, finishing with 18 points and three assists in a 112-97 win on November 18, 2021.

Bane initiates the give-and-go with Steven Adams with an entry feed, cuts around his defender, gets it back and finishes an alley-oop layup in a single motion. Bane dropped 28 points to go with four rebounds, four dimes and four triples in a tight road victory against the Utah Jazz on November 22, 2021. 

The Houston Rockets roster is laden with up-and-coming talent. Rookie Josh Christopher shows off his tough shot-making ability with a stepback triple against smothering defense. This trey marked the first field goal of Christopher's career. The Arizona State product notched five points in his NBA regular season debut on October 20, 2021.

Here he puts both his hustle and athleticism on display with a rim-rocking putback jam against the Philadelphia 76ers. The five-time All-Star blasts down the lane with three power dribbles and finishes through contact while also earning a trip to the charity stripe. LaMelo Ball’s passing game alone is must-see television. In an October 25, 2021 matchup against the Boston Celtics, the Charlotte Hornets sophomore guard pushes the ball up the court and tears into the paint. Noticing teammate Miles Bridges trailing him at the top of the key, Ball dishes a pinpoint-precise dime over his shoulder without looking, for Bridges to throw down with a thunderous slam. The 2020-21 Rookie of the Year went for 25 points, nine assists and five boards on the night.

Andrew Wiggins’ star continues to shine with the Golden State Warriors as he continues to attack the rim. In a jubilant home game on the night of Klay Thompson’s return to the NBA, Wiggins pushes the ball up court and gets a ball screen from Steph Curry that allows him to blow past two defenders and sprint straight to the hoop for an emphatic slam. Wiggins and the Warriors walked away with the W against the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 9, 2022.

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard D’Angelo Russell has incredible style and creativity with the ball in his hands, which makes it difficult for defenders to figure out his next move. He breaks his man down with a few back-and-forth crossovers before shifting gears into a hesitation dribble and lefty scoop. Russell tallied 20 points, six assists, three rebounds and two blocks in an impressive victory over the Miami Heat on November 24, 2021.

The road team wants nothing more than to silence the home crowd in a tense moment. Robert Williams III did just that after diving hard to the basket, hammering home a lob from Jayson Tatum. Williams III tallied a double-double of 12 points & 16 rebounds (to go along with 3 blocks) in Boston's 140-129 double overtime shootout in Charlotte on October 25, 2021.

See an open lane and take it. With defensive attention zeroed in on Golden State Warriors teammate Steph Curry, versatile big man Draymond Green finds a clear path to the cup. It doesn’t take more than a split second for Green to decide what he wants to do: one hard dribble, two big steps and one monster hammer up and over the defense. Green registered a well-rounded line of eight points, eight boards and five dimes in the November 5, 2021 win over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans.

Out on the fastbreak, the Indiana Pacers forward takes flight, paying homage to a certain mailman of a different time with an impressive one-hand-behind-the-head jam. Normally a go-to scorer from downtown, Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard Grayson Allen turns down a three-point attempt over RJ Barrett and breaks out a nice pass fake to get the upper hand on a tough New York Knicks defense.
