Even without their usual perch atop the league’s standings ahead of their upcoming title defense, the Las Vegas Aces remain a postseason team few hope to contend with, partially because of the extra gear that comes with a healthy Chelsea Gray. Sensing an opportunity against Rae Burrell on the perimeter, Gray put a few of those many gears on showcase in isolation. Decisive in her move immediately after the catch, the two-time Olympic gold medalist challenges Burrell’s balance, first with a breathtaking crossover and then another, creating space before elevating into an and-one pull-up jumper. The bucket helped kickstart a 23-14 run to close out the second quarter, giving Las Vegas a seven-point halftime boost. Gray’s contributions helped the Aces exact a measure of revenge against the often-competitive Los Angeles Sparks, earning their first win of the WNBA’s second half stretch. Impactful when called upon, Gray provided eight points (on an efficient three-of-four shooting), paired with four assists, two steals, a 3-pointer, and a game-high +15 plus-minus against her former team.
