In his fourth NBA season, Keldon Johnson averaged a career-high 22.0 points per game — up from 17.0 the previous year — to lead the Spurs in scoring, while Devin Vassell was second at 18.5 points, a better than six-point improvement from year two to three. Third-year guard Tre Jones doubled his output in points and assists, while former top-10 pick Zach Collins averaged double-digit points for the first time in his five-year career. Jeremy Sochan produced 11.0 points and 5.3 rebounds to crack the All-Rookie Second Team after the Spurs selected him ninth overall, the franchise’s first All-Rookie selection since Kawhi Leonard in 2012. Malaki Branham was another rookie who averaged better than 10 points per game for the Spurs, who missed the postseason for the fourth consecutive season but hope that the strides made by the team’s young players — not to mention a franchise-altering number one pick in the 2023 NBA Draft — indicate better times lie ahead.
