With Joel Embiid having a quiet game and James Harden finished for the night after less than three quarters, trouble seemed to be on the horizon for the Philadelphia 76ers. Apparently nobody told that to Tyrese Maxey. Fresh off a 33-point performance in Game 2, Maxey again played the role of hero in Game 3 as he heated up right on time. Trailing by three late in the fourth quarter, the third-year guard scored 10 straight Philly points: a driving floater in traffic and a 3-pointer with Embiid running interference on screens kept the 76ers in the fight, a steal and coast-to-coast layup tied it at 96 and a step-back triple over Spencer Dinwiddie put them in front for good with 44.1 seconds to play. Maxey shot 10 of 17 from the field — 5 for 8 from downtown — for a team-high 25 points to go with three rebounds and three assists in his squad’s 102-97 win on April 20, 2023 as the 76ers took a commanding 3-0 First Round series lead.
