The Houston Rockets rookie splits two players in transition, glides into a dunking motion and switches it into a beautiful finger roll finish. The Orlando Magic point guard treats the opponent like in a pickup game with a quick behind-the-back dribble after stopping on a dime, then spins away from the defenders before dropping in a finger roll off the glass. In the thick of an entertaining 2000 Rookie Challenge, the Sacramento Kings sophomore pushes the ball past half-court flanked by teammates, motions as though he’s about to offload a pass to his right, then wraps the ball behind his back and bounces it off his elbow to a trailer on his left.

At just 21 years of age, the Dallas Mavericks seven-footer not only shot the ball with unprecedented confidence, he delivered. Surrounded by generational talent lob threats in the 2000 NBA All-Star Game, Phoenix Suns guard Jason Kidd pushes the pace up the floor, drives through the paint, then flips an underhanded lob pass off the backboard to a trailing teammate for a thundering slam. With his second dunk in the now fabled 2000 event, the 6-foot-3 rookie tosses himself a high-arcing lob pass, leaps up to grab the alley-oop off a bounce, reaches way off to the side with the rock in his hand, then uncoils an epic hammer to the delight of the panel of judges. Francis would go on to finish second in the iconic contest then proceed to secure co-Rookie of the Year honors for the 1999-00 season.

The gifted Portland Trail Blazers pivot dominated both the paint and glass in a 98-88 Trail Blazers victory over the Orlando Magic on January 17, 2022, leading all players with 21 points, 22 rebounds and four steals.

When you’re labeled as a “shooter,” it’s important to round out other areas of your game. Svi Mykhailiuk unleashes the full arsenal in transition with a slick behind-the-back dribble followed by a lefty hammer over the Indiana Pacers' Justin Holiday. Veteran forward David Nwaba shows how it’s done, taking a hard baseline drive before maneuvering across the other side of the rim for a one-handed poster slam over the Denver Nuggets. Atlanta Hawks swingman Bogdan Bogdanović is known for his gifts as a catch-and-shoot scorer but when his number’s called, he’s more than capable of setting the table for himself. Here, he gets downhill, attacking the rim before using a crafty half-spin to free himself for a fadeaway against the Washington Wizards. Bogdanović did a bit of everything, with 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and four triples in the 118-111 win on November 1, 2021.

Why swat a shot out of bounds when you can snatch the ball from the opposition completely? Atlanta Hawks big Onyeka Okongwu takes advantage of his chance to perform a highlight play, meeting a Toronto Raptors player at the rim and gobbling the ball away for an authoritative rejection. Okongwu stepped up with nine points, nine rebounds and a block in the January 31, 2022 matchup.

Indiana Pacers third-year forward Kelan Martin catches a pass in the corner, takes two big steps toward the key, then loses his man with a massive crossover before levitating for a silky jumper. Indiana bested the Philadelphia 76ers on the road 118-113 on November 13, 2021.

With his 6-foot-11 frame and 7-foot-5 wingspan, Steven Adams has the ability to affect nearly any shot around the rim. Timing his rotation just right, the Memphis Grizzlies big man was able to sneak into the lane at the last second and send a layup into the stands with an authoritative block. Adams was at his best in this 105-90 triumph over the Miami Heat, producing 17 points, 16 rebounds, a steal and a block on December 6, 2021.

Minnesota Timberwolves point guard D’Angelo Russell has incredible style and creativity with the ball in his hands, which makes it difficult for defenders to figure out his next move. He breaks his man down with a few back-and-forth crossovers before shifting gears into a hesitation dribble and lefty scoop. Russell tallied 20 points, six assists, three rebounds and two blocks in an impressive victory over the Miami Heat on November 24, 2021.

The road team wants nothing more than to silence the home crowd in a tense moment. Robert Williams III did just that after diving hard to the basket, hammering home a lob from Jayson Tatum. Williams III tallied a double-double of 12 points & 16 rebounds (to go along with 3 blocks) in Boston's 140-129 double overtime shootout in Charlotte on October 25, 2021.

It’s become increasingly difficult to handle Jalen Brunson off the dribble. The Dallas Mavericks fourth-year guard combines a couple of crossovers into a spinning, falling finish plus the foul.
