Seizing a gap in the Phoenix Suns defense in the final minute of an early season contest, the Los Angeles Lakers star barrels to the hoop and lays in a critical two points. James racked up 21 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, two steals and a pair of blocks in the October 26, 2023 victory.

Working off of a screen from fellow rookie Chet Holmgren, Wallace seizes an opportunity to create space from his defender and pull up for a jumper. As comfortable dominating in the paint as ever, Jokić tips an entry pass to himself, gathers possession then finishes with an untouchable push shot. Jokić and the Nuggets received their rings and raised their banner prior to the October 24, 2023 contest.

With evasive length and contagious creativity, the 2023 NBA All-Star is a constant threat to either dole out an unexpected no-look dime or simply pull-up from deep for his own bucket. Haliburton led all scorers on the winning team in a mind-numbing 157-152 slugfest on November 21, 2023, turning heads with 37 points and 16 assists.

The Dallas Mavericks rookie finished the November 12, 2023 contest with four points.

Teams generally understand the various ways that Giannis Antetokounmpo can deal damage but don’t fault the Chicago Bulls for being caught off guard by “fall-away three at the buzzer”. Already cruising to a 14-point lead in the waning seconds of the first quarter, Antetokounmpo collects an inbound pass with one second on the game clock and immediately fires an untouchable triple. Antetokounmpo scored 35 points and added 11 rebounds in the Milwaukee Bucks victory on November 13, 2023.

Nothing less than one of his generation’s most offensively gifted superstars, Joel Embiid’s arsenal was in full effect against the Washington Wizards on November 6, 2023. Until it wasn’t. Because the damage done through three quarters was so substantial that the reigning MVP didn’t have to take the court in the final frame at all. That Embiid’s mind-boggling 48 points on 17-of-25 shooting came in just 31 minutes is a testament to his efficiency, as evidenced by the 29 points he racked up in the third quarter alone, shooting 10-for-10 from the field and 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. In addition to the scoring spree, Embiid racked up 11 rebounds, six assists and, above all else, a Philadelphia 76ers victory.

Challenged in the paint by one of the most dominant frontcourts in basketball, Bam Adebayo stepped up and more. A bully on the glass with playmaking chops and a voracious ability to put the ball in the hole, Adebayo came within a hair of the first 20-rebound triple-double in Miami Heat history. The mobile big’s unstoppable 22-point, 19-rebound, 10-assist line, with two blocks and two steals, came in a well-earned November 6, 2023 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

D’Angelo Russell, for the better part of a nine-year career, has starred in his fair share of viral highlight reels but the ones that feature him don’t usually take place above the rim. Seizing an opportunity to punish an unset defense in transition, Russell sneaks around an open-court screen, flies along the baseline and unloads a poster dunk just in time to beat Paolo Banchero. The dunk wasn’t the only way the Los Angeles Lakers guard dealt damage, adding 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting and eight dimes in the October 30, 2023 affair.

Suiting up in his first NBA contest, Dariq Whitehead eyes up a drive attempt while manning his own section of a zone, then shuffles over to a cutter and rejects an easy bucket. A budding star whose versatility is impossible to miss, Scottie Barnes is ready to take his game to the next level in Year 3. Alert under the hoop as Naz Reid penetrates a Toronto Raptors zone, Barnes emerges as the last line of defense to blow up a dunk attempt. Unsatisfied with the defensive stop, Barnes sets out in transition to facilitate a OG Anunoby fastbreak on the opposite end. Barnes finished the October 25, 2023 win with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and five blocks.

Embiid finished the night with an unmistakably dominant 35 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and six blocks as the Philadelphia 76ers locked down an October 29, 2023 win.

With the offensive gravity of a celestial body, Trae Young can manipulate a defense from anywhere on the court. Attacking into the paint off the dribble, Young attracts the attention of four defenders before whipping a side-arm pass from under the basket out to a waiting Dejounte Murray for three. Young racked up 23 points and 10 assists in the Atlanta Hawks win on November 1, 2023.

Forced to compete in a high-octane scoring battle, Mikal Bridges of the Brooklyn Nets was happy to oblige. With a wiry first step, exhausting footwork and a soft touch on his jump shot, Bridges scored consistently throughout a November 22, 2023 duel with the Atlanta Hawks, going so far as to rack up 11 points in the final frame. The Nets came up short-handed in overtime but not before Bridges tied his career high with 45 points, adding 10 rebounds and a pair of steals for good measure.

Trailing Sacramento Kings teammate De’Aaron Fox on a fastbreak, Monk waits eagerly for an inevitable set-up, gathers the ball then floats seamlessly into a cocked-back, audaciously powerful, one-handed poster. Monk added 10 points, seven dimes and two blocks in the October 25, 2023 victory.

Picked up late by Pat Connaughton, Brunson blows past the three-point line on a drive attempt, shakes his way into the paint and converts a layup through contact. Any hot hand can hit a game-winning jumper, doing it after carrying a team for 48 minutes is a different matter altogether. After spearheading a Toronto Raptors comeback from down 23 points against the Washington Wizards, Pascal Siakam put the finishing touch on a heroic performance down the stretch, guiding a mismatched defender into the paint then stepping back into a go-head fade with less than 10 seconds remaining. Siakam scored 39 points on the night, including 29 during a triumphant second-half rally on November 13, 2023.

After deftly splitting a pair of defenders at the three-point line, Mitchell penetrates into the paint, sidesteps a help-side defender and lofts an off-balance scoop shot through the net.
