Taking advantage of a Brooklyn Nets trap on a teammate, Tatum showcases his off-ball IQ, sneaking down the middle of the lane and taking a pass before climbing up for a big-time throwdown over two defenders. Tatum brought the buckets all night, with 30 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 129-106 win on February 24, 2022.

LeBron James can turn nothing into something with the flip of a switch. With a full head of steam, James makes a quick cross around one defender, then ducks into the paint and reaches back for an incredible, one-handed power dunk over Jaren Jackson Jr. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar was fully locked in with a game-high 35 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a January 9, 2022 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The only thing more dangerous than DeMar DeRozan is DeMar DeRozan with an angle to the basket and an open path to score. Working a pindown on the left sideline, DeRozan takes advantage of his leverage and some confusion from the Orlando Magic defense, freeing himself for a gather and an authoritative one-handed finish at the rim. DeRozan was up to his usual self, finishing the February 1, 2022 contest with 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

No matter the age, situation, or defensive coverage, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James makes the game of basketball look effortless. James showcases his world-class athleticism by sneaking backdoor on a cut, turning teammate Malik Monk’s lob into a reverse alley-oop slam to send the crowd into a frenzy. James racked up a 30-point, 12-rebound, five-assist performance on January 19, 2022.

Scottie Barnes is a problem. The Toronto Raptors rookie flashes his do-it-all talent in this possession, taking his defender off the dribble, getting to his spot inside the paint and floating a lefty finish that finds the bottom of the net. Barnes finished with 12 points and nine boards in his NBA debut in the October 20, 2021 contest.

The pressure of your first NBA bucket can be immense — especially when you’re the first overall pick. Detroit Pistons 2021 draftee Cade Cunningham catches a pass at the arc and immediately blows by his defender and through the lane to lay one in with his left. Detroit walked away with the win in the rookie’s NBA debut on October 30, 2021.

In one of the first Moments to be selected by the community in Top Shot history, Evan Mobley shows off his multi-dimensional skill set, which has Cavs fans rightfully excited for the future. The 7-footer has a knack for finishing uncanny plays - Mobley makes a strong gather off a Darius Garland dish and hangs through contact to finish his first career and-one.

There are three-point shooters who change games, and three-point shooters who change the game. Steph Curry is definitively the latter. In a home opener to kick off another potential MVP season, the Golden State Warriors guard pushes the ball up the court and heaves it to a teammate in the corner. Curry then chases his own pass and calls for the ball back to sink a high-flying, catch-and-shoot triple. The seven-time All-Star hit his first 10 field goals of the night on October 21, 2021, while pouring in 25 of his 45 points in the first quarter alone.

There’s a bright future for rookies with elite creativity on the court. In his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets, first-year guard Jalen Green sprints to catch a pass near the perimeter and continues toward the hoop as several defenders mark him. Meeting Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns at the rim, Green goes up and under in midair for an acrobatic reverse layup - the first bucket of his career - on October 20, 2021.

Blocks off the glass just hit different. Picking up reigning NBA champ Giannis Antetokounmpo at halfcourt, Philadelphia 76ers sophomore forward Paul Reed tracks the two-time MVP as he makes a break for the rim. Reed comes up big, swatting a layup attempt off the backboard for one of his two blocks on November 9, 2021.

Just weeks into his NBA career, Josh Giddey has NBA fans and superstars alike buzzing about his movement of the ball. In his first regular season game with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the rook demonstrates masterful handles, simultaneously losing his defender and drawing two more before floating the rock to a teammate for a layup. In addition to his smooth maneuvers on the court, Giddey locked in 10 rebounds in his debut on October 20, 2021.

Making an impact on a playoff-hopeful squad is no easy feat for a rookie — just don’t tell that to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. In his NBA debut, the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, catches a behind-the-back bounce pass from teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson and steps back behind the arc to launch a confident three for his first-career bucket. Kuminga walked away with a Warriors win and the game ball on October 30, 2021.

There’s nothing quite like that first-ever bucket in the NBA. For Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves, that moment required a little creativity. Here, against the Phoenix Suns, Reaves punishes an overaggressive closeout before snaking his way into the middle of the lane for a high-arcing leaner over the outstretched arms of a defender. Reaves was efficient, scoring eight points in just 12 minutes in his debut game on October 22, 2021.

Franz Wagner can throw it down, as proven early and often in his young career. The Orlando Magic rookie catches a pass outside the arc and battles his way to the cup for a thunderous one-handed slam. Wagner went for 12 points in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

Though only a rookie, Moses Moody is fearless in his attack. Despite a hard close out by All-Star Anthony Davis, Moody turned the tables with a strong baseline drive en route to a layup for his first NBA points.

Houston Rockets first-year big man Alperen Şengün follows a teammate’s high-flying three attempt and, unguarded, levitates to emphatically jam it home as it bounces off the rim. In one of the first Moments to be selected by the community in Top Shot history, Jalen Suggs shows that he knows how to create a clean look for himself. The former high school quarterback turned top-5 NBA draft pick wards off Dejounte Murray with a devastating behind-the-back dribble and pulls-up into a silky smooth trey.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

Luka Dončić coming off of a pick-and-roll is the last thing you want to see when playing the Dallas Mavericks. In a play typically saved for All-Star weekend, Dončić freezes the defense with a behind-the-back combo straight into a cross-court pass, finding Kristaps Porzingis for a crucial three-pointer on the left wing. Dončić led the way with 26 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds during the Mavericks’ 116-106 triumph over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

The ability to make tough shots cannot be taught. Denver Nuggets rookie Bones Hyland shows no fear in going 1-on-1 with his defender and puts on a series of moves, hesitations and fakes. Despite stout defense, Hyland still converts a leaning, one-handed fadeaway going left. That’s tough. The bucket counted for two of Hyland’s seven points off the bench in his NBA debut on October 25, 2021.

With elite bucket-getting abilities, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has proven he’s no average rookie. With the fate of his team in his hands, Thomas attacks a hard closeout before calmly draining a game-winning, one-legged leaner to defeat the San Antonio Spurs. Thomas chipped in 11 points and six rebounds in the 121-119 overtime win on January 9, 2022.

In one of the first Moments to be selected by the community in Top Shot history, Davion Mitchell shows he has more than a few tricks up his sleeve. In his Top Shot Debut, Mitchell, gets CJ McCollum off balance with a quick, 'snatch-back' crossover to a stepback J.

Unlimited range in today’s NBA is a beautiful thing. New Orleans Pelicans rookie Trey Murphy III shows off his marksmanship with no hesitation as he drains a long three. Murphy converted on two triples in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

Welcome to the (Jordan) Poole party. Better known for his ability to get buckets from the perimeter, this time Poole sees a hole in the defense and takes it strong to the hoop, finishing at the rim with a tough up-and-under, off-hand layup.

In his regular season debut with the Memphis Grizzlies, Ziaire Williams is unguarded at the perimeter and makes the Cleveland Cavaliers defense pay by catching an outlet pass, squaring up and draining a three for the first bucket of his NBA career on October 20, 2021.

With one of the NBA’s smoothest handles, there are few defenses Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić can’t free himself of. With two Philadelphia 76ers to his left, Dončić shifts right with a quick between-the-legs move, creating a runway for a highlight flush in traffic. Dončić's box score told a similar story with 33 points, 13 rebounds, 15 assists and two steals in a 107-98 win on February 4, 2022.

Trailer, trailer, trailer. With the defense on its heels, San Antonio Spurs rookie Joshua Primo provides an outlet for his teammate and readies himself for a three-point shot. Like clockwork, Primo collects the pass, steps into his shot, then releases over the defense for his first points in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

When you’re playing an NBA game in front of your hometown, you’d better be ready to put on a show. Jose Alvarado proves up to the challenge, putting the New York Knicks’ defense through a game of hide-and-seek. He uses a sharp behind-the-back before weaving through traffic and finishing with a fancy around-the-rim finish. Alvarado made good on his homecoming with an efficient 13-point, four-assist, four-steal performance in a 102-91 win for the New Orleans Pelicans on January 20, 2022.

Homegrown buckets hit different. In his NBA regular season debut, Chicago Bulls rookie guard Ayo Dosunmu goes on a tear for not one but two transition layups. The Chicago native and University of Illinois star wasted no time making an impact on October 20, 2021.

Forget everything you know about conventional basketball when Nikola Jokić hits the floor. The mesmerizing Denver Nuggets center defies positional norms yet again on January 7, 2022, seamlessly carrying the rock the length of the floor against the Sacramento Kings, then hitting JaMychal Green in stride with a casual no-look, one-handed entry feed. Jokić finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win.

Klay Thompson may be one of the most feared shooters in NBA history, but he’s got other facets to his game he can contribute with as well. He showcases one here, leaking out on a fastbreak and facing a drive before dropping off a behind-the-back dish to a teammate for a score. Thompson played an all-around offensive game with 15 points, six assists and three triples in a 130-92 win over the Dallas Mavericks on January 25, 2022.

Pressure defense doesn't faze Jayson Tatum. The Boston Celtics star puts on a dribbling clinic in a series of maneuvers before losing his defender with a quick spin move and explosive finish at the hoop. Ball on a string. Tatum finished with 20 points in the November 1, 2021 contest against the Chicago Bulls.

You love to see a rookie take on an MVP-caliber defender with no fear. New Orleans Pelicans neophyte Herbert Jones considers a shot on the perimeter then, seeing a path to the rim with only three-time All-Star and reigning MVP Nikola Jokić in the way, decides to take his chances. The rookie center comes up big, reaching up and over his defender’s outstretched arm for a one-handed jam on December 8, 2021.

Some rookies are just fearless from the jump. In his first regular season game with the Indiana Pacers, Chris Duarte attempts to lose his defender with a sidestep and a pump fake. With his man still on him and seconds left on the clock, Duarte pulls up for a jumper and beats the buzzer to nail a three, capping off an 11 point quarter. He shined in his debut with 27 points and five rebounds on October 20, 2021.

Rookie forward Jalen Johnson has the tools to be a problem in this league for years. The Atlanta Hawks fanbase gets a small glimpse of that potential as the Duke product drains a triple from the top of the key in his NBA regular season debut.

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Tre Mann assesses a fully-set Utah Jazz defense and, rolling around a screen, finds himself matched up with three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. With time fast expiring in the first quarter, Mann fearlessly takes one step toward the basket then steps back to sink a long jumper over Gobert’s outstretched arm in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

No matter the matchup, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has proven he’s confident he can score in any situation. Despite giving up size in an isolation against a Denver Nuggets big, Edwards takes him for a dance, working a mix of between-the-legs, in-and-out crossovers and hesitations before getting enough space to drain a stepback three-pointer. That was the story of the night, as Edwards exploded for 38 points, 10 three-pointers and five rebounds in a 124-107 win on December 15, 2021.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Dallas Mavericks guard Reggie Bullock provides a lesson in persistence here, missing on his first three-point attempt before draining it on his second chance to send the crowd into a frenzy with a clutch bucket. Bullock had a highlight game with 20 points, four rebounds and four triples to help his squad outlast the Philadelphia 76ers in a 107-98 win on February 4, 2022.

When you’re a rookie representing your hometown, the pressure can get to you. Just don’t tell that to 2021 Toronto Raptors draftee Dalano Banton. In his regular season debut, the Toronto native pulls up from halfcourt for three points... and his first ever NBA bucket.

Golden State Warriors center Kevon Looney flies in to corral a deflected rebound and has the presence of mind to finish a difficult layup, to help the Warriors take the lead, with under 14 seconds left to play. Looney had a strong outing in Golden State’s 102-100 victory over the Indiana Pacers on December 13, 2021 with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a game-winning putback.

Quentin Grimes is impressing the entire basketball world with his confidence in his rookie season. In a home matchup at the Garden against the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks, the New York Knicks wing catches a pass from teammate Derrick Rose and quickly releases over the arms of his defender for three of his game-high 27 points on December 12, 2021.

Ever the competitor, Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown hasn’t seen many at-the-rim matchups that he couldn’t win. Splitting his way through a pair of ball screens, the All-Star guard creates an open runway to the rim and puts a Dallas Mavericks center on a poster with a vicious contact jam. Brown chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in a March 13, 2022 matchup.

First-year Miami Heat center Omer Yurtseven catches a pass, backs his defender down toward the low post, then suddenly spins into a silky jumper with the poise of a vet. The rookie had eight points and three boards in his NBA debut – a victory over the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks – on October 21, 2022.

Don’t underestimate a rookie with something to prove in their NBA debut. On the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 27, 2021, Memphis Grizzlies first-year forward Santi Aldama collects a pass with no one near him. With nothing but time, Aldama makes the Portland defense pay with a high-flying triple on October 27, 2021.

It’s hard to disrupt the smooth, even-keeled approach Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane brings to the table. Bane rips through his defender on the perimeter and reverses back with a spin dribble into a driving slam with one hand. Memphis’s talented second-year guard scored 29 points and pulled down nine boards in the team’s 97-90 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on December 4, 2021.

From New Orleans to Los Angeles, Rajon Rondo and Anthony Davis have years of experience as a lob pairing. Without a word or signal, Davis quickly spins around Juan Toscano-Anderson and skies for a Rondo pass that's already in flight. Poetry in motion.
