Here, Morant adds to that reel, leaping to snag a 94-foot inbound pass from the other side of the court and draining a buzzer-beating alley-oop jumpshot all in one motion. That was one of many plays Morant made, as he burned the San Antonio Spurs for a franchise-record 52 points and seven rebounds in a 118-105 win on February 28, 2022.

LA Clippers superstar Paul George can get his defender off balance with the slightest move. He drops a smooth crossover behind his back, then completely breaks away from his man for a clean step-back triple that falls right in. PG-13 was unstoppable in LA’s 106-92 win over the San Antonio Spurs on November 16, 2021, dropping in a game-high 34 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and two steals.

Full strength or not, few players can change the climate of a game or series the way Philadelphia 76ers big Joel Embiid can. After missing the first two games against the Miami Heat with an orbital fracture, Embiid returned, masked, and on a mission in Game 3. Operating out of the triple threat position, the 76ers star uses a pump fake and a tight dribble, finding space to drain a difficult and-one jumper to ignite the home crowd. This bucket proved to be one of the clinchers, giving Philadelphia a double-digit lead late in the fourth, on the way to a convincing 99-79 win on May 6, 2022. Embiid’s presence cut the series lead to 2-1, with 18 points, 11 rebounds and one block.

In his rise toward superstardom, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has become most-known for his three-point shooting and the fear it strikes in opposing defenses. That said, you don’t become a multi-time NBA champion without knowing how to make critical plays on the defensive end, too. Taking on the challenge of guarding Memphis Grizzlies’ guard Ja Morant with the game down to a single shot, Curry mirrors him perfectly before meeting him at the launch point for a game-saving block. The two-time MVP chipped in with 24 points, five triples, three rebounds and four assists helping the Warriors throw the first haymaker of the series with a 117-116 win on May 1, 2022.

Forget everything you know about conventional basketball when Nikola Jokić hits the floor. The mesmerizing Denver Nuggets center defies positional norms yet again on January 7, 2022, seamlessly carrying the rock the length of the floor against the Sacramento Kings, then hitting JaMychal Green in stride with a casual no-look, one-handed entry feed. Jokić finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win.

No matter the age, situation, or defensive coverage, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James makes the game of basketball look effortless. James showcases his world-class athleticism by sneaking backdoor on a cut, turning teammate Malik Monk’s lob into a reverse alley-oop slam to send the crowd into a frenzy. James racked up a 30-point, 12-rebound, five-assist performance on January 19, 2022.

Scottie Barnes is a problem. The Toronto Raptors rookie flashes his do-it-all talent in this possession, taking his defender off the dribble, getting to his spot inside the paint and floating a lefty finish that finds the bottom of the net. Barnes finished with 12 points and nine boards in his NBA debut in the October 20, 2021 contest.

The pressure of your first NBA bucket can be immense — especially when you’re the first overall pick. Detroit Pistons 2021 draftee Cade Cunningham catches a pass at the arc and immediately blows by his defender and through the lane to lay one in with his left. Detroit walked away with the win in the rookie’s NBA debut on October 30, 2021.

In one of the first Moments to be selected by the community in Top Shot history, Evan Mobley shows off his multi-dimensional skill set, which has Cavs fans rightfully excited for the future. The 7-footer has a knack for finishing uncanny plays - Mobley makes a strong gather off a Darius Garland dish and hangs through contact to finish his first career and-one.

When Toronto Raptors swingman Vince Carter blew the roof off Oakland Arena on February 12, 2000, the landscape of NBA superstardom changed. So, too, did the trajectory of Canadian basketball and the sheer concept of what society considered humans capable of above the rim. With his third dunk of an already unforgettable slam dunk contest, the 23-year-old icon gathers steam from beyond the perimeter, leaps into the air from just outside the restricted area, then unleashes an Eastbay-inspired, through-the-legs alley-oop to the delight of millions world-wide. It’s over, ladies and gentlemen. Or has it just begun?

There are three-point shooters who change games, and three-point shooters who change the game. Steph Curry is definitively the latter. In a home opener to kick off another potential MVP season, the Golden State Warriors guard pushes the ball up the court and heaves it to a teammate in the corner. Curry then chases his own pass and calls for the ball back to sink a high-flying, catch-and-shoot triple. The seven-time All-Star hit his first 10 field goals of the night on October 21, 2021, while pouring in 25 of his 45 points in the first quarter alone.

There’s a bright future for rookies with elite creativity on the court. In his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets, first-year guard Jalen Green sprints to catch a pass near the perimeter and continues toward the hoop as several defenders mark him. Meeting Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns at the rim, Green goes up and under in midair for an acrobatic reverse layup - the first bucket of his career - on October 20, 2021.

With his team in danger of dropping two series-opening games on their home floor, Ja Morant decided it was time to score by any means, even if it meant putting a defender on that very floor. Trailing 99-98 with under two minutes to go, the Memphis Grizzlies guard calls an isolation before slicing a Golden State Warriors defender with a rhythmic-crossover-half-spin combination before dropping in a floater to give his team a lead they would never again surrender. Morant added to his big-game profile on May 3, 2022, with 47 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a 106-101 win to tie the series at one game apiece.

Blocks off the glass just hit different. Picking up reigning NBA champ Giannis Antetokounmpo at halfcourt, Philadelphia 76ers sophomore forward Paul Reed tracks the two-time MVP as he makes a break for the rim. Reed comes up big, swatting a layup attempt off the backboard for one of his two blocks on November 9, 2021.

Fueled by competitiveness and his basketball IQ, there are no matchups too big for Golden State Warriors defensive powerhouse Draymond Green. Holding a 116-111 lead in the fourth quarter of Game 3 of the First Round, everyone in the arena knew where the Denver Nuggets would go with the ball next. Outsized by a skilled and strong Nikola Jokić, Green stands his ground before perfectly timing a reach to come up with a game-sealing steal to push his team to a 118-113 win and a 3-0 series lead. The six-time All-Defensive teamer was everywhere on April 21, 2022 with six points, five rebounds, 10 assists and two steals.

Just weeks into his NBA career, Josh Giddey has NBA fans and superstars alike buzzing about his movement of the ball. In his first regular season game with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the rook demonstrates masterful handles, simultaneously losing his defender and drawing two more before floating the rock to a teammate for a layup. In addition to his smooth maneuvers on the court, Giddey locked in 10 rebounds in his debut on October 20, 2021.

Making an impact on a playoff-hopeful squad is no easy feat for a rookie — just don’t tell that to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. In his NBA debut, the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, catches a behind-the-back bounce pass from teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson and steps back behind the arc to launch a confident three for his first-career bucket. Kuminga walked away with a Warriors win and the game ball on October 30, 2021.

There’s nothing quite like that first-ever bucket in the NBA. For Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves, that moment required a little creativity. Here, against the Phoenix Suns, Reaves punishes an overaggressive closeout before snaking his way into the middle of the lane for a high-arcing leaner over the outstretched arms of a defender. Reaves was efficient, scoring eight points in just 12 minutes in his debut game on October 22, 2021.

Whether he’s scoring points in bunches or using his gravity to set up an open teammate, Denver Nuggets big Nikola Jokić has the code to crack any defense. With the Nuggets needing one more bucket to seal the game and extend their season, the reigning MVP rolls after a screen, receives a pass and goes straight into a Eurostep before delivering an on-the-money dime to a wide-open Will Barton in the corner. Jokić put on a show for the Denver crowd with 37 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three triples in a 126-121 win over the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the First Round on April 24, 2022.

In the best season of his career to date, it was only right that first-time All-Star  Andrew Wiggins added some one-of-a-kind postseason highlights to his catalog. Attacking a rotating Memphis Grizzlies defense on a hard close-out, Wiggins finds a runway to the basket before rising up for a rugged, two-handed poster jam all over a Memphis Grizzlies big. Wiggins kept the highlights coming with 16 points and nine rebounds on May 3, 2022.

After spending much of Game 1 overcoming the Boston Celtics’ defense by setting up his teammates, it was only right that Giannis Antetokounmpo eventually served one up for himself. Battling tough defense, the Milwaukee Bucks forward uses a shot fake to free himself before tossing the ball off the glass for a self-assist slam dunk. This pushed the Bucks’ lead to 16 with six minutes to go, helping them secure a victory on the road. Antetokounmpo, fittingly, finished with a triple-double, 24 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists and two blocks in the 101-89 win on May 1, 2022.

Before Game 1 of his series against the Memphis Grizzlies, Anthony Edwards took to social media to deliver a simple message: when the lights come on, he shows up. Edwards took to defending that message right away in the postseason, using a series of between-the-leg dribbles to catch a defender off guard, before finishing the possession with a smooth stepback. This play helped Minnesota open a five-point lead to start the fourth, on the way to a 130-117 road upset. Edwards excelled in his first postseason test with 36 points, six assists, four triples, and two blocks on April 16, 2022.

Franz Wagner can throw it down, as proven early and often in his young career. The Orlando Magic rookie catches a pass outside the arc and battles his way to the cup for a thunderous one-handed slam. Wagner went for 12 points in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

Sometimes, the difference between a star and a full-on superstar can be found through how a player responds in must-win games with the season on the line. Down 3-2 against the defending NBA champions on their own home court, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum showed which type he was in Game 6. Working against a taxing Bucks defense late in the game, Tatum finds an extra gear, rejecting a pick-and-roll on the way to the basket before exploding through with a strong, and-one layup in traffic, pushing the Celtics’ lead to 13 with two minutes to go. Forcing Game 7, Tatum pieced together a 46-point, nine-rebound, four-assist game with seven triples on May 13, 2022.

Though only a rookie, Moses Moody is fearless in his attack. Despite a hard close out by All-Star Anthony Davis, Moody turned the tables with a strong baseline drive en route to a layup for his first NBA points.

If you’re gonna make a run at the Golden State Warriors, you’d better at least come equipped with a generational scorer capable of hitting any shot. Working off a drag screen near half court, Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Dončić proves to be that guy, blowing by a defender on a pick-and-roll switch before hitting an off-balanced, high-arching leaner. Though ultimately for naught, Dončić’s efforts helped provide a small comeback scare. The All-Star finished his most successful season with 28 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three triples and one steal on May 26, 2022.

Rookies aren’t expected to make a big impact in the playoffs but it’s clear Jose Alvarado had other plans. Using his viral sneak-steal, the undersized menace preys on one of the NBA’s greatest floor generals with an incredible defensive play, leading to an easy score the other way. The play helped halt any comeback attempt from the Phoenix Suns, as the Pelicans marched to a 118-103 win to even the First Round series up at 2-2. Alvarado chipped in five points, two rebounds and a pair of key fourth-quarter swipes on April 24, 2022.

Give and you shall receive, or such was the case for Gary Payton II, who happened to be in position for the biggest shot of his professional career in the fourth quarter of Game 5 of the First Round. Following a series of extra passes, Payton finds himself open with the ball, then stabilizes for a three-pointer that extends the Golden State Warriors’ lead to five, effectively sealing the series over the Denver Nuggets. Payton was dependable and excellent, with 15 points on six-of-eight shooting and three triples in a 102-98 victory on April 27, 2022.

Leave a rookie wide open in the paint and that decision just might blow up in your face. Houston Rockets first-year big man Alperen Şengün follows a teammate’s high-flying three attempt and, unguarded, levitates to emphatically jam it home as it bounces off the rim. Şengün grabbed six boards to go along with 11 points in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

After staking his claim as the NBA’s best late-game scorer in the regular season, it was only right that Chicago Bulls star guard DeMar DeRozan have that opportunity in the postseason. Up three with 30 seconds to go in Game 2 of the First Round, the five-time All-Star called his own number, attacking the rim with aggression on the way to a cold-blooded game-clincher over and around the Milwaukee Bucks defense. DeRozan was spectacular, tallying 41 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the 114-110 victory to even the series at one game apiece on April 20, 2022.

The play is never over ‘til it’s over! Jalen Suggs of the Orlando Magic refuses to give up after a turnover, sprints down the court and saves the day with a beautiful chase down block to deny an easy dunk on the break. Suggs finished with six points, four assists, two steals and a block in a 119-103 victory over the Detroit Pistons on January 28, 2022.

In one of the first Moments to be selected by the community in Top Shot history, Jalen Suggs shows that he knows how to create a clean look for himself. The former high school quarterback turned top-5 NBA draft pick wards off Dejounte Murray with a devastating behind-the-back dribble and pulls-up into a silky smooth trey.

When defending the Golden State Warriors’ talented offense, prepare to be attacked from every angle. Dazzling as a scorer in his first postseason, Jordan Poole shows off his playmaking skills, splitting through a double drag screen before shipping a smooth delivery to his cutting teammate for a jam. Poole proved instrumental in erasing a 19-point first half deficit. The brilliant two-guard needed just 10 shots for 23 points, adding five assists and two steals in a 126-117 win on May 20, 2022.

Can't stop him, can only hope to contain him! Minnesota has all hands on deck trying to deter reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who instead takes only a few motions to gather, hang & hammer home his own miss.

He may be the Defensive Player of the Year but Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart is more than willing to step up on offensive end when his number’s called. With his team in dire need of a final bucket to bury the Brooklyn Nets in Game 2 of the First Round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Smart utilizes a quick first step to creep into the lane, setting himself up for a tough left-handed floater over the outstretched arms of three defenders. After the bucket, the two-way veteran couldn’t help but gaze at his hand in awe, and teammate Jaylen Brown joined the party. Smart hit the biggest shot of the night and helped secure the 114-107 victory on April 20, 2022, adding 12 points, five assists and a steal.

Luka Dončić coming off of a pick-and-roll is the last thing you want to see when playing the Dallas Mavericks. In a play typically saved for All-Star weekend, Dončić freezes the defense with a behind-the-back combo straight into a cross-court pass, finding Kristaps Porzingis for a crucial three-pointer on the left wing. Dončić led the way with 26 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds during the Mavericks’ 116-106 triumph over the Houston Rockets on October 26, 2021.

Josh Giddey’s amazing control of the ball allows him to spearhead a naturally comfortable rhythm on offense. Here, Giddey makes a left-to-right crossover then spins the opposite direction and converts a tough reverse layup with the defense draped all over him. The star Oklahoma City Thunder rookie dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 101-89 victory over Houston Rockets on November 17, 2021.

With elite bucket-getting abilities, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has proven he’s no average rookie. With the fate of his team in his hands, Thomas attacks a hard closeout before calmly draining a game-winning, one-legged leaner to defeat the San Antonio Spurs. Thomas chipped in 11 points and six rebounds in the 121-119 overtime win on January 9, 2022.

The ability to make tough shots cannot be taught. Denver Nuggets rookie Bones Hyland shows no fear in going 1-on-1 with his defender and puts on a series of moves, hesitations and fakes. Despite stout defense, Hyland still converts a leaning, one-handed fadeaway going left. That’s tough. The bucket counted for two of Hyland’s seven points off the bench in his NBA debut on October 25, 2021.

Few players across the NBA have been able to elevate their level of play from the regular season to the playoffs quite as effectively as Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell. Exemplifying such, the three-time All-Star takes a high screen, quickly crosses over to split the hedging defense, then catches a body with an explosive one-handed jam in traffic. Mitchell did what he does, pouring in 32 points and six assists in Game 3 of the First Round against the Dallas Mavericks on April 21, 2022.

It takes more than a hostile environment and a top-tier defense to keep Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving from churning out highlight after highlight. In a display of his advanced court vision, Irving splits the defense, drawing in four defenders, then takes to the air before delivering an on-target no-look bounce pass to the deep corner to set up an open Patty Mills three-pointer. Irving was brilliant in Game 1 against his former Boston Celtics squad, stacking 39 points, five rebounds, six assists, four steals with six threes in an April 17, 2022 playoff nail-biter.

Unlimited range in today’s NBA is a beautiful thing. New Orleans Pelicans rookie Trey Murphy III shows off his marksmanship with no hesitation as he drains a long three. Murphy converted on two triples in his NBA debut on October 20, 2021.

When you’re adjusting to the speed of the NBA game, it helps to have some breakaway speed of your own. Matched up in isolation against a bigger defender, Chicago Bulls rookie Ayo Dosunmu decides to showcase his quickness, turning on the jets before lifting off for a one-handed slam in traffic. Dosunmu showed off his potential with 15 points, 14 assists and two steals in a 122-115 win over the Indiana Pacers on February 4, 2022.

In a Game 7 against the reigning NBA champions, the best players are prepared to dig deep into their bag of tricks to find ways to score. Creeping between the Milwaukee Bucks defense on a cut, Jaylen Brown shows how it’s done, recognizing an advantage and cutting to the rim before skiing through the air to snag a pass for a contested alley-oop score in traffic. With the Bucks on the ropes and trailing by 10 mid-way through the third, this was among the plays that helped the Boston Celtics pull away, opening up a 16-point lead that ballooned even further in the fourth. Boston’s guard proved ready for the bright lights in a win-or-go-home game with an efficient 19-point, eight-rebound game, along with two steals and two triples to help ignite a 109-81 win on the way to the Eastern Conference Finals on May 15, 2022.

To stand any chance against a generational offensive talent like Kevin Durant, a defender must be able to effectively mix fearlessness with quick decision making, and Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams proved up to the challenge in the First Round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Defending one-on-one at the elbow, Williams anticipates the shot attempt and swats the ball away, then runs the floor with determination before being rewarded with a pass and two points on the other end. The third-year man stepped up all series long, including seven points and this key block in a 115-114 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in Game 1 of the First Round on April 17, 2022.

When Minnesota Timberwolves big Karl-Anthony Towns is aggressive and in attack mode, every position from 1-through-5 is in danger. With his team holding a one-point advantage in the third, and in need of a big run to steal Game 1, Towns works a quick pick-and-roll, getting a smaller Memphis Grizzlies defender on him before spinning his way to the rim to drop a one-handed hammer in traffic. Towns opened the series with punctuation, dropping in 29 points, 13 rebounds and three assists in the 130-117 win on April 16, 2022.
