No matter the situation, Steph Curry has the ability to leave jaws dropped every time he touches a basketball. The Golden State Warriors left everybody in the arena speechless when he snared a pass from Andrew Bogut on the perimeter and instantly ran into a wall of defensive traffic. Undeterred by the heavy pressure, Curry dribbled around his back through a trio of Clippers before stepping behind the arc and abruptly unleashing an off-balance 3-pointer from the top of the key that somehow swished. In the first of his two straight MVP seasons, Curry scored just 12 points on nine shots yet still left the arena as the most talked about player on the floor. The circus shot even left head coach Steve Kerr — who made 726 3-pointers and shot better than 45 percent from downtown during a 15-year NBA run — in total disbelief. Curry added four assists and three steals in Golden State’s 106-98 victory on March 8, 2015 and would later go on to win his first championship later that year.

Steph Curry did not have to wait very long to pump himself and the Golden State Warriors up. In the second game of his 14th NBA season, the nine-time All-Star lost control of the ball on the perimeter before handing it off to Kevon Looney. Looney dumped it down low to Draymond Green, who immediately flicked a pass to a cutting Curry for a driving layup that had him mugging for the baseline camera in celebration. It was the second of three straight 30-point games to open the 2022-23 season for Curry, who posted 34 points, five rebounds, four assists and five 3-pointers against the Denver Nuggets on October 21, 2022. 

Don’t stand in Collin Sexton’s way in the ring. In his very first game for the Utah Jazz, the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard channeled his inner bull before charging right at — and then past — two-time MVP Nikola Jokić. Sexton finished with a strong drive to his left and converted a running layup despite the Joker being in full pursuit. The five-year veteran threw a party to kick off his Utah tenure, posting 20 points, five rebounds and two assists in a 21-minute run off the bench as the Jazz secured a 123-102 victory over the Denver Nuggets on October 19, 2022.

Coming off his second consecutive Western Conference Player of the Week honor, Damian Lillard sure was feeling himself. While no stranger to the deepest of 3-pointers, the seven-time Portland Trail Blazers outdid even himself as he surveyed his options in the halfcourt offense before deciding to uncork a 40-footer from just inside the center court line. Lillard posted a game-high 28 points in addition to four rebounds and five assists against the Milwaukee Bucks on February 6, 2023.

Darius Garland stopped short — and his defender just kept on running. The fourth-year Cleveland Cavaliers guard had an extra special pump fake prepared for Aaron Wiggins as he got some help from a screen set by Jarrett Allen. Now two steps ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder guard, Garland patiently waited for Wiggins to catch up before a dazzling one-legged fake sent the defender barreling past him, allowing Garland to finish the impressive sequence with a midrange jumper. Garland tallied a team-high 31 points, 13 assists and four steals in the January 27, 2023 showdown.

While it would still be months before he was crowned as the NBA MVP, Joel Embiid got his 2023 off to a dynamite start. The six-time All-Star cut toward the basket to receive a James Harden bounce pass and let his momentum take him the rest of the way before finishing the possession with a contested and-1 layup through the teeth of the Utah Jazz defense. As one of the more expressive players in the league, Embiid had some extra fun while rolling around on the baseline following the conversion — part of a 42-point, 11-rebound, five-assist performance while shooting 15 of 24 from the field in a 120-111 victory on January 2, 2023. It was one of 13 games of at least 40 points in 2022-23 for Embiid, tied for third-most in the NBA.

On his 38th birthday, LeBron James put together a throwback performance for the ages. James shows the Atlanta Hawks what he is still capable of in year 20, reaching into his bag of tricks for all of his greatest hits — driving layups and slams in traffic, a pull-up triple to beat the shot clock, a turnaround baseline jumper and even collecting a rare missed layup for a second-chance putback. James is his usual helpful self when assisting on a couple of Thomas Bryant layups, and then reminds the basketball world that there’s no play he can’t make when he beats a defender off the dribble before driving strong into the paint for an and-one bucket despite being surrounded by three defenders. The 19-time All-Star lit up the Hawks for 47 points on 18 for 27 shooting while adding 10 rebounds, nine assists and four three-pointers in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 130-121 win on December 30, 2022.

Kevin Durant’s much-anticipated Phoenix Suns debut was well worth the three-week wait. The 13-time All-Star fit in seamlessly with his new teammates as he makes an impact on both ends — first blocking a Mark Williams’ shot on the low block before burying a catch-and-shoot triple off a feed from Devin Booker on the ensuing possession. Durant 23 points on 10 for 15 shooting to go with six rebounds, two assists and two blocks in Phoenix’s 105-91 road victory over the Charlotte Hornets on March 1, 2023.

Luka Dončić only played three quarters, so he made sure to announce his presence loud and with authority. The Portland Trail Blazers have no defensive solutions for the Dallas Mavericks superstar, who pump fakes a defender out of his sneakers and fools another with a head fake while driving strong to the rim before elevating for a massive one-handed slam. Despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter, Dončić dropped 33 points, six rebounds, nine assists and five triples in his squad’s 130-110 victory on December 16, 2022.

Donning a Los Angeles Lakers jersey for the first time since 2017, D’Angelo Russell celebrated the reunion the best possible way — with a win. Selected by the Lakers with the second pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Russell returns with unfinished business as he grabs an inbounds pass in the corner and uses a shifty handle to hunt for space before pulling up and draining a foul line jumper. The 2019 All-Star posted 15 points, five rebounds and six assists in helping deliver a 109-103 victory over another of his former teams — the Golden State Warriors — on February 11, 2023.

Even with no LeBron James on the court, the new look Los Angeles Lakers took care of business. Jarred Vanderbilt was a big reason why, as the fifth-year forward takes his new opportunity and runs with it as he puts himself in the right spot to catch an Austin Reaves pass in the paint and finish with a throwdown over Donte DiVincenzo. Vanderbilt made great use of his 17 minutes off the bench, converting 5 of 7 field goals for 12 points while also chipping in eight rebounds and four assists in his new squad’s 109-103 win over the Golden State Warriors on February 11, 2023.

Being traded is never easy, but being on the move can create increased opportunity. After being a supporting player for parts of five seasons with the Phoenix Suns, Mikal Bridges is now the centerpiece of the Brooklyn Nets’ offense after being acquired at the trade deadline. The talented two-way forward shows off his offensive chops while running a give-and-go with Nic Claxton, finishing the possession by knocking down a difficult runner over Joel Embiid. In his Brooklyn debut, Bridges scored a team-high 23 points while adding six rebounds and two steals on February 11, 2023.

It’s no secret that Giannis Antetokounmpo has some of the most enviable length and reach in the NBA — but he was sure to remind the Indiana Pacers anyway. The two-time MVP proves to be unstoppable in transition following a steal as he runs the break with Grayson Allen, who hits a cutting Antetokounmpo with a pass in space which is all he needs to land a spectacular dunk over two defenders. The seven-time All-Star’s pure athleticism was overwhelming for the Pacers — as were Antetokounmpo’s 41 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in the Milwaukee Bucks’ 141-131 victory on January 27, 2023.

With his Milwaukee Bucks on a four-game losing streak, it was time for Giannis Antetokounmpo to pull out all the stops. The two-time MVP puts the Minnesota Timberwolves defense through a long night, beating multiple defenders on dribble drives through traffic to finish at the rim on more than one occasion. Antetokounmpo makes several highlight-reel plays — turning three offensive rebounds into putbacks, including one off his own free throw miss, and another where he soars way up high to throw down a powerful one-handed alley-oop. All told, Antetokounmpo torched the Timberwolves for 43 points on 14 for 23 shooting to pair with 20 rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the 123-114 win on December 30, 2022 — becoming the first player since 1982 to post back-to-back 40/20 games and just the third player in NBA history and first since 1966 to have consecutive games of 40 points, 20 rebounds and five assists. It was also the fourth time in his last six games that the seven-time All-Star topped 40 points.

On a night where Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took 35 shots — 16 field goals and 19 free throws — you could count his total number of misses on one hand. The Oklahoma City Thunder’s budding superstar haunts the Portland Trail Blazers defense all night, even getting the best of seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard on a drive to the basket while also scoring a majority of his buckets on athletic, highlight-reel drives and midrange pull-ups. Gilgeous-Alexander proves to be a reliable teammate too, working hard on defense to pick up a pair of steals while building chemistry with Josh Giddey — once on a behind-the-back dish and another by threading the needle on a difficult bounce pass that turns into four Thunder points. When the dust had settled, the fifth-year guard had matched his previous career-high of 44 points on 13 of 16 shooting and an 18 for 19 mark at the line, along with three rebounds, seven assists and two steals in the Thunder’s 138-129 victory on February 10, 2023. Gilgeous-Alexander became the first player in franchise history to score 40-plus points on 80 percent shooting.

It doesn’t get much better than a game-winning buzzer beater in your first NBA season, but such is reality for Indiana Pacers rookie Andrew Nembhard. Nembhard gets the opportunity thanks to a Tyrese Haliburton offensive board in the closing seconds, and when Haliburton can’t find his own shot after some dribble maneuvers, he spots Nembhard on the wing. The moment wasn’t too big for the 31st overall pick, as he did not shy away from unleashing a dagger over the outstretched fingertips of LeBron James. Nembhard connected on 4 of his 7 three-point attempts for 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks, helping his team rally from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit in the 116-115 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on November 28, 2022.

All these years later and James Harden is still out here equaling franchise records. In a vintage Harden performance, the 10-time All-Star lights up the LA Clippers using everything in his toolbox — facilitating transition opportunities with long outlet passes, assisting on multiple Joel Embiid buckets inside, strong drives to the basket that end in layups or trips to the foul line and of course the patented stepback trey that defenders still can’t stop. Harden’s 20 points, 11 rebounds and career-high 21 assists — which matched a Philadelphia 76ers franchise record — helped his squad erase a 20-point deficit en route to a 119-114 victory on December 23, 2022.

He didn’t hit the game-winning shot, but Malik Beasley still found a way to be a hero twice. Down by four points in the closing seconds, things looked bleak for the Utah Jazz before Beasley hit a clutch triple to pull his squad within one. And he wasn’t done either — after Nickeil Alexander-Walker picks Jordan Poole’s pocket on the ensuing inbound play, Beasley scoops up the loose ball and fires a perfect bounce pass to Simone Fontecchio for the go-ahead slam with 1.4 seconds left on the clock. Beasley finished with 18 points, three rebounds, one clutch assist and four three-pointers in Utah’s thrilling 124-123 win over the Golden State Warriors on December 7, 2022.

It took all of one game for Josh Hart to make his mark on the New York Knicks. Reunited with college teammate Jalen Brunson, Hart looks at home in the New York offense as Brunson passes out of a double team to Julius Randle, who quickly fires the ball out to Hart for a three-pointer that gives the Knicks a nine-point fourth quarter lead with less than two minutes to play. The sixth-year forward contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals off the bench in helping the Knicks claim a 126-120 win over the Utah Jazz on February 11, 2023.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again. These are words to live by for Kevon Looney, as the Golden State Warriors big man got to play the role of double overtime savior against a feisty Atlanta Hawks squad. When Klay Thompson — who scored 54 points in the game — had a rare misfire, this game seemed destined for a third extra frame until Looney positioned himself for the putback try. Looney’s first attempt is off the mark, but he stays with the ball and gets another opportunity, this time laying it in as time expires. Looney’s 14 points, 20 rebounds and four assists were a major catalyst in Golden State’s 143-141 triumph on January 2, 2023.

If at first you miss your shot, give it a try again at much closer range. Lauri Markkanen comes up short on a three-point attempt against the Sacramento Kings but is thankful for second chances as a teammate snares the offensive board and whips the ball back to a cutting Markkanen, who delivers a second time around with a gravity-defying slam over Domantas Sabonis. The Utah Jazz All-Star forward produced a game-high 36 points on 16 of 24 shooting while also collecting five rebounds on December 30, 2022.

Anything you can do, Saddiq Bey can do better. On the road facing the Golden State Warriors, Bey’s Detroit Pistons found themselves tied with 2.3 seconds remaining following a clutch Klay Thompson three-pointer. On the ensuing possession, Killian Hayes inbounds to Bey and the third-year forward doesn’t miss, letting fly a game-winning triple at the buzzer while falling backward. It was one of four treys for Bey, who on a floor filled with precision marksmen hit the biggest shot of the night, getting the last laugh by posting 17 points, three rebounds and two steals in the 122-119 win on January 4, 2023.

If you leave Kevin Huerter this wide open in the closing seconds of a tight game then plan on leaving with a loss. The third time's the charm for Huerter and the Sacramento Kings, who stay with the play by collecting two offensive boards after a pair of De’Aaron Fox midrange misfires. When the ball makes its way back out to the perimeter, Keegan Murray swings it to an all-alone Huerter who drains the backbreaking triple with 9.2 seconds remaining. The game-winner was the cap on a huge night for Huerter, who finished with a team-high 30 points on 12 of 18 shooting to pair with two rebounds, two assists and six three-pointers in the thrilling 126-125 win on December 30, 2022.

When Bam Adebayo is charging toward the basket with a full head of steam, enter the paint at your own risk. Joe Harris gives it his best shot on defense, but there was no slowing down the Miami Heat center as he gets in front of his initial defender and rumbles down the lane before soaring through the air and finishing with an earth-shaking dunk. The Brooklyn Nets won a nail-biter, but Adebayo’s throwdown won’t be forgotten anytime soon as the 2020 NBA All-Star finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists on January 8, 2023.

DeMar DeRozan doesn’t miss much, but when he does it’s good to have Ayo Dosunmu around. With the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks deadlocked at 108, DeRozan tries to play the role of hero with a tough turnaround jumper over DeAndre Hunter. When the attempt comes up short and John Collins fails to snare the board, an opportunistic Dosunmu is in the perfect spot at the right time to scoop up the loose ball and lay it in before time expires. The second-year guard tallied nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in Chicago’s thrilling 110-108 win on December 21, 2022.

The NBA is better with a healthy Victor Oladipo on the court. The two-time All-Star has battled injuries the past couple of seasons but looks like his old self with the Miami Heat, blowing right by Kelly Olynyk on a drive to the hoop before taking flight and unleashing a thunderous slam over skilled shot-blocking rookie Walker Kessler. Oladipo was a spark plug off the bench for the Heat, chipping in 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and four three-pointers during a 35-minute run in Miami’s 126-123 victory over the Utah Jazz on December 31, 2022.

Even when backed into a literal corner, Luka Dončić is savvy enough to find a way out. When the Dallas Mavericks’ four-time All-Star chased down a pass he had juggled in the corner, he was promptly met by a pair of Indiana Pacers defenders. With his back to the basket and few options at his disposal, Dončić surveyed the scene before leaving his feet and firing a bullet to the other side of the court into the waiting hands of an all-alone Jaden Hardy for a corner 3-pointer. Dončić scored a team-high 25 points while mixing in seven rebounds, six assists and zero turnovers to help Dallas prevail 127-104 on March 27, 2023.

If you’re only going to make one shot, might as well make it a game-winner. Clinging to a one-point lead in the closing seconds, the Dallas Mavericks fail to cover Brook Lopez on the inbound play and the veteran center makes them pay, catching a lob from George Hill and laying it off the glass with 7.1 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Milwaukee Bucks. With Giannis Antetokounmpo on the bench with six fouls, Lopez’s lone field goal was crucial in Milwaukee’s fourth consecutive win, and his four points, six rebounds and three blocks got the job done in the 106-105 victory on December 9, 2022.

Anthony Davis may have scored 55 points, but he was still powerless to stop a soaring Daniel Gafford. After three point-blank misses at one end, the Washington Wizards push the tempo with numbers in their favor. With Davis the lone defender in a 2-on-1, Corey Kispert throws up a lob and Gafford does the rest, catching the alley-oop with his hand well behind his head before tomahawking his way around the defenseless big man. Gafford could hardly miss, shooting 9-for-10 for 19 points, adding in seven rebounds and two blocks on December 4, 2022.

Cameron Johnson commemorated the formation of the new-look Brooklyn Nets with a no-look pass. Acquired from the Phoenix Suns in a trade deadline deal, Johnson and his new mates display instant synergy — when Spencer Dinwiddie comes up with a steal and fires a pass to an in-transition Johnson, the fourth-year forward drops off a beauty of a dish to a trailing Dorian Finney-Smith for a powerful slam. Johnson tallied 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in his Brooklyn debut against the Philadelphia 76ers on February 11, 2023.

For the second time during a transcendent breakout campaign, nobody was stopping Tyrese Haliburton with the game on the line. Patrick Beverley clamped down on the first-time Indiana Pacers All-Star with some tenacious defense, but it didn’t matter as Haliburton used his body and handles to keep Beverley at bay just long enough to get off a 30-footer from way downtown to break a tie with less than three seconds remaining. Haliburton’s second game-winning triple of the season was part of a 29-point, 11-assist effort in which he shot 11 for 17 from the field and 6 for 9 from deep in a thrilling 125-122 road win over the Chicago Bulls on March 5, 2023. Haliburton averaged 20.7 points and 10.4 assists per game in 2022-23, both career-highs.

With a game’s outcome hanging in the balance, there are few more qualified candidates than Jimmy Butler to take the big shot. Butler’s brand is as strong as ever against the Houston Rockets as he executes a perfect backdoor cut that puts himself in prime position to throw down Gabe Vincent’s alley-oop inbounds pass with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. The six-time All-Star rarely disappoints in the clutch, as his 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals helped deliver the Miami Heat a 97-95 victory on February 10, 2023.

LeBron James has long shined on the biggest and brightest stages. As far as the regular season goes, it doesn’t get much bigger or brighter than overtime in New York City. An All-Star in his 19th consecutive season, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar did his part to keep the New York Knicks at bay when he buried a wide-open 3-pointer to give the Lakers a six-point lead with under two minutes to play in regulation. The Knicks rallied to force overtime, but James’ triple-double effort of 28 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists was too much for New York to overcome as the Lakers left the Big Apple with a 129-123 win on January 31, 2023. 

Shaedon Sharpe has opened plenty of eyes during a successful rookie campaign. He’s also dropped quite a few jaws with his dunking prowess. The Washington Wizards were Sharpe’s latest posterization victim as he got past Taj Gibson with a corner pump fake and used his space and momentum to charge toward the basket along the baseline before winding his right arm back and unloading an emphatic slam over a pair of helpless defenders. Sharpe scored 14 points off the bench for the Portland Trail Blazers on February 14, 2023.

At this point, seemingly every Nikola Jokić game ends with Video Game Numbers. The two-time Denver Nuggets MVP made the improbable look easy against the LA Clippers as he impacted the game in his usual variety of ways. Jokić scored on soft-touch layups and difficult post-ups with space created by his nimble footwork while mixing in a tough fadeaway with a Clippers defender draped all over him. The five-time All-Star — who averaged a career-best 9.8 assists per game in 2022-23 — also put his elite facilitating on display, whether it was threading the needle into tight windows, a no-look laser that set up a 3-pointer or a steal on the defensive end that led to a transition alley-oop. All told, Jokić posted 40 points on 14 of 21 shooting, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals — his 23rd triple-double of the season and 14th in his past 19 games as the Nuggets secured a 134-124 win on February 26, 2023.

During an uncharacteristically quiet scoring night, Jayson Tatum got his bucket when it mattered most. With his Boston Celtics having clawed back from down 15 points in the second half, the game was tied in the closing seconds when the four-time All-Star received a pass from Marcus Smart. With defender De’Anthony Melton sticking to Tatum like glue, the Celtics star stopped short and created just enough space with a behind-the-back dribble to get off the game-winning triple with 1.3 seconds left. Tatum posted 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in his squad’s exhilarating 110-107 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on February 25, 2023.

Everybody knows Jamal Murray can win a game with a bucket — but how about a game-saving rejection for good measure? The explosive Denver Nuggets guard had just 16 blocks during the entire 2022-23 season, with none bigger than the one Murray landed on Klay Thompson during a frenetic final few seconds against the Golden State Warriors. Murray helped his squad close in on home court advantage and the Western Conference’s top seed with a solid performance of 26 points, three rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks in a thrilling 112-110 victory on April 2, 2023.

With the Golden State Warriors playing without Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Patrick Baldwin Jr. paid homage to his Splash Brothers teammates. The rookie forward was called on for increased minutes for the shorthanded Warriors and delivered from downtown in his Top Shot debut, draining a catch-and-shoot triple off a dump off pass from Anthony Lamb. Eight of the 10 shots Baldwin Jr. attempted were from behind the arc, converting five of them for 17 points along with three rebounds against the Brooklyn Nets on December 21, 2022.

Ochai Agbaji relished the opportunity to show he can throw down with the best of them in his Top Shot debut. The Utah Jazz rookie guard gets a head start on the counterattack following a Memphis Grizzlies miss, receiving an outlet pass from Jordan Clarkson with only one defender standing between him and the basket. Agbaji doesn’t back down from the challenge, skying high and throwing down a highlight-reel jam. The 14th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is playing with extreme confidence, scoring 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting on February 15, 2023.

If you didn’t know Dalano Banton’s name before, you sure do now. With his shorthanded Toronto Raptors missing three key players against the Detroit Pistons, Banton took the opportunity to introduce himself. Banton exploded for a career-high 27 points while also chipping in four rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in Toronto’s gritty 115-111 triumph on November 14, 2022.

Even with his team holding an 11-point lead at the time, Peyton Watson saved the day. The Denver Nuggets forward put Steph Curry on his highlight reel as the Golden State Warriors superstar beat Jamal Murray off the dribble and seemed to have a clear path to the rim for an easy fourth quarter layup. That is until a trailing Watson perfectly anticipated Curry’s move and skied high to land an emphatic rejection off the backboard, which preserved Denver’s lead with 2:34 to play. The Warriors ended the game on a 9-0 run, with Watson’s clutch block serving as the ultimate difference maker in his squad’s 112-110 win on April 2, 2023. The 30th overall pick in the draft contributed eight points, five rebounds and three blocks in the winning effort.

Few gave the Oklahoma City Thunder a chance against the NBA-leading Boston Celtics, especially with leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander unavailable. The third-year reserve guard has found his mojo with the Thunder, blowing by Blake Griffin before taking flight and throwing down the hammer over Payton Pritchard. Joe tallied 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting off the bench to pair with four rebounds and four assists in the Thunder’s 150-117 regulation win on January 3, 2023.

Kevin Durant did not disappoint the fans who had waited nearly two months to witness his Phoenix Suns home debut. Healthy again after multiple injuries, the 13-time All-Star’s first home points stemmed from a Chris Paul feed into the post, with Durant then going to work backing down Jaden McDaniels before burying one of his patented turnaround jumpers. Durant posted 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists while helping the Suns pick up a 107-100 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 29, 2023.

The first game-winning shot of Evan Mobley’s young career was worth the wait. Locked in a tie game with the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ talented second-year forward puts himself in the right spot to benefit from a Donovan Mitchell drive to the basket. When Mitchell runs into traffic he spots a cutting Mobley, who calmly sinks a 14-foot pullup from just inside the foul line to deliver the Cleveland Cavaliers a thrilling win. Mobley had six points, eight rebounds and two steals in the 90-88 triumph on January 4, 2023.

De’Aaron Fox had only missed five times all night, so he sure wasn’t going to miss the final shot in a tie game. After the Chicago Bulls had knotted the score from the free throw line, the Sacramento Kings guard calmly brought the ball up the floor and connected on a game-winning 3-pointer from the top of the key despite the efforts of Ayo Dosunmu and Patrick Williams to knock him off track. Fox shot 12 for 17 for a team-high 32 points, adding three rebounds, two steals and four triples in an exhilarating 117-114 road win on March 15, 2023. An All-Star for the first time in six seasons in 2023, the All-NBA Third Team selection shot a career-best 51.2 percent from the field across 73 games. 

De'Aaron Fox

Never underestimate how big of an impact fit can have on a player’s success with a team. After being waived by the Philadelphia 76ers a couple of days before the start of the season, Charles Bassey quickly found himself a new home with the San Antonio Spurs. It hasn’t taken long for the second-year reserve center to leave a lasting impression, as he shows off his hustle and defensive aptitude by chasing down George Hill of the Milwaukee Bucks and emphatically spiking his shot attempt into the hardwood. Bassey got busy in just 18 minutes, producing five points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four blocks in San Antonio’s impressive 111-93 win on November 11, 2022.

In James Harden’s return to Brooklyn, Joel Embiid helped his teammate pick up a win against his old squad. The Philadelphia 76ers point guard inbounded the basketball to Embiid, who decided he wanted to fire from long range as he took two dribbles backward and nailed one of Harden’s patented step-back 3-pointers. In another monster season for Embiid, the six-time All-Star overwhelmed the Brooklyn Nets with 37 points on 12 of 18 shooting and added 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals in the 101-98 victory on February 11, 2023. 

In a game with very little defense played by either team, Tyrese Haliburton more than made up for it on the other end. The All-Star Indiana Pacers point guard was his usual dynamic, playmaking self against the Philadelphia 76ers as he carved up his opponent in a variety of different ways. Whether he was draining open 3-pointers, slashing his way to the rim for a plethora of close-range buckets, dishing out his normal allotment of highlight-reel assists or burying buzzer beaters from 30-plus feet — the 76ers simply had zero answers for the third-year budding star. Haliburton went off for 39 points on 12 for 19 shooting to go with three rebounds, 16 assists and five 3-pointers on March 6, 2023.
