Fired up and anxious to defend her crown as the 2021 WNBA MVP, Connecticut Sun forward Jonquel Jones wastes little time making impact plays, stealthily rotating over to time up an emphatic block and sending it in the opposite direction. The two-way superstar racked up 15 points, seven rebounds, two three-pointers, two steals, and two blocks in a matchup with the New York Liberty on May 7, 2022.

Scoring with the defensively stout Emily Engstler on the floor is no easy task. Always on the hustle, the Indiana Fever rookie forward impedes a Washington Mystics ball-handler on a pick-and-roll, then finds the energy to hunt down her matchup, sending her layup attempt into the other direction. The No. 4 selection filled the entire bingo board on the box score in her WNBA debut with four points, nine rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist on May 6, 2022.

With each passing year, the list of defenders to fall victim to Erica Wheeler's lightning-quick handle continues to grow. Using her opponent's momentum to her advantage on a pick-and-roll, the Atlanta Dream guard makes a Chicago Sky defender touch earth with an explosive between-the-legs snatchback, capping the play with a much-needed 3-pointer to stay within striking distance. Highlights were aplenty for Wheeler in the July 3, 2022 matchup, as she tallied up 15 points, five assists and three triples.

When Chennedy Carter sets her mind on attacking the rim, the best a defense can do is hope for a miss. One of the game's absolute best at maneuvering pick-and-rolls, Carter rejects a screen before freezing the Dallas Wings defense with a hesitation on the way to a reverse layup in traffic. The new Los Angeles Sparks guard chipped in across the board in a tough 93-91 victory over the Dallas Wings on May 31, 2022, with an efficient nine points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds.

As they attempt to return to WNBA glory, the Washington Mystics have benefitted from bringing along multiple exciting rookies from the 2022 Draft class. Taking the Indiana Fever defense through a game of hide-and-seek on a pick-and-roll, crafty guard Rui Machida provides an example, creeping into the lane unchecked before finishing with a smooth finger roll. Machida was among the many highlights in her first career game, where the Mystics nabbed an 84-70 win on May 6, 2022.

As the old adage goes, the basketball travels faster than any player can. Showcasing her passing ability, Diamond DeShields successfully puts that theory to the test, gobbling a rebound and launching a full-court touchdown outlet pass to a teammate for a fastbreak score. The Phoenix Mercury guard showed off every part of her game on May 25, 2022, with 17 points, nine assists, five rebounds, a triple and a steal in a matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks.

Diamond DeShields

Once she gets to one of her spots along the perimeter, it's only a matter of time before Dallas Wings guard Marina Mabrey creates the space needed to get a bucket. With a Phoenix Mercury big looking to take away her reliable stepback, Mabrey stops on a dime with a hard dribble, getting just enough breathing room to drain a midrange dagger to ice a 94-84 win on May 19, 2022. Quietly one of the WNBA's most versatile players, Mabrey did a little bit of everything with 13 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and two triples.

Consistently one of the WNBA's more talented scorers, Aerial Powers' budding playmaking skills have made her even more of a nightmare for opposing defenses. In an excellent display of IQ, vision and pure skill, Powers steals an errant pass before leading a fastbreak charge, then drops a precise, in-stride dime to a teammate past two New York Liberty defenders for a highlight assist. The Minnesota Lynx guard was brilliant in a 84-77 win on June 5, 2022, starring with 27 points, seven rebounds, three triples, two assists, a steal and a block.

Aerial Powers

There's no such thing as an easy look when Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles is nearby on the defensive end. Rotating over to deter to protect the rim, the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year hunts down a spinning layup attempt with a demonstrative block against the Dallas Wings. Fowles, one of the WNBA's all-time great shot blockers, brought that and more in the May 21, 2022 contest with 14 points on six-of-nine shooting, nine rebounds, three steals and four blocks.

There aren't many angles Cheyenne Parker can't create a bucket from. Working against the clock, the Atlanta Dream big frees herself on an inbounds pass before adjusting to drain a contested one-handed hook shot from 15 feet away, confidently holding her pose as the shot drops. That play helped the Dream end the first quarter with momentum on the way to a 75-66 win over the Indiana Fever. The talented big finished with an important 11-point, five-rebound, two-assist performance on June 5, 2022.

Cheyenne Parker

Call on Breanna Stewart to get you a bucket, and you'll rarely be disappointed. One of the game's most talented shot-makers, Stewart takes the Los Angeles Sparks defense for a ride, splitting a pick-and-roll to create a free path to the basket before finishing strong with an and-one layup. The Seattle Storm forward was in MVP form in the 83-80 win on May 20, 2022, contributing 28 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two three-pointers and a steal.

Breanna Stewart

Mere weeks into her WNBA career, Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith has quickly transformed into a must-watch talent. Using a quick pass-and-cut action, the No. 2 overall pick teaches the Washington Mystics that lesson the hard way, sneaking behind the defense to notch an and-one on her first career basket. It didn't take Smith long to showcase her star potential in the May 6, 2022 matchup, where she tallied up a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds and an assist.

NaLyssa Smith

As defenses have quickly learned throughout her rookie season, Destanni Henderson can find a way to create offense in nearly any situation. Remaining poised after finding no one open, the Indiana Fever guard uses her pivot to spin and find a teammate cutting backdoor for a score. Henderson contributed across the board in her WNBA debut on May 6, 2022, with four points and five assists in a matchup against the Washington Mystics.

Whether she's looking your way or not, get open and Chelsea Gray will get you a shot. Accurately nicknamed "The Point Gawd," Gray dribbles out a pick-and-roll, occupying two Minnesota Lynx defenders before slipping a smooth behind-the-back dish to her All-Star teammate. If it could be done offensively, Gray did it in the Las Vegas Aces' 93-87 win on May 19, 2022, with 17 points, seven assists, three rebounds, two steals and two three-pointers.
