Diana Taurasi was already the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, so hitting a singular milestone only cemented her legendary status. The 19-year veteran — who has played her entire career with the Phoenix Mercury — showed the Atlanta Dream and the rest of the basketball universe that she is still operating at an insanely-high level as the first player in league history to cross the 10,000-point threshold. Taurasi reached the mountaintop with a bang and not a whimper as she caught the ball behind the 3-point arc and immediately buried a triple in the faces of two powerless Atlanta defenders. The 10-time All-Star and three-time champion connected on 12 of 21 field goals and 6 of 13 from downtown for a season-high 42 points — her fourth career 40-point game and first since 2010. Taurasi mixed in four rebounds, two assists and made all 12 of her free throws as she led the Mercury to a 91-71 victory on August 3, 2023.
