By 2010-11, Paul Pierce and the veteran-built, banner-raising Boston Celtics knew that battles were now more likely to be won through experience, ego-less play, and execution. Even in Year 13, though, Pierce showed Sasha Vujačić and the New Jersey Nets that athleticism remained a key component in the equation. Quiet to this point, as he allowed his efficient teammates to carry March 14, 2011’s scoring load, Pierce turns up the volume, unleashing a behind-the-back dribble that allows entry into the paint. Riding that momentum towards the rim, Pierce springs through the skies, humbling Kris Humphries with a powerful one-handed flush that extends Boston’s post-halftime lead. Math would ultimately work in the favor of the Nets, as they used 11 3-pointers — compared to Boston’s two — to defeat the Eastern Conference’s then-reigning champions. Pierce, though, offered versatility throughout, offsetting his off-shooting night by tallying seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, two blocks, and a +10 plus-minus in 32 minutes.
