Already considered the type of player capable of someday guiding the Washington Mystics back to their championship level, Aaliyah Edwards certainly wasn’t one to waste time showcasing the different levels to her own game during her WNBA career’s opening act. Having already welcomed herself to the scoring column with a pair of free throws in the first half, the accomplished first-year forward turns it up a notch, using her teammate’s attention to drift into open space along the perimeter before easing into a wide-open 16-foot bucket. Spurred on by that milestone score, Edwards returned with another just moments later, continually putting the pressure on the New York Liberty and their pair of former Most Valuable Player winners along the frontline. The Mystics’ attempts at earning a win would ultimately fall short, but not without the rookie first putting forth a remarkable performance on May 14, 2024. A formidable force from the midrange-in on both sides of the floor, Edwards turned in six points, a pair of rebounds, and one block in 14 minutes.
