Fred VanVleet is giving new meaning to timely buckets. Sensing the clock is running low against the New York Knicks, the Toronto Raptors point guard allowed an inbounds pass to roll slowly up the floor until the ball crossed halfcourt. VanVleet then scooped it up and buried a deep three-pointer from well beyond the arc, a sign of things to come as he later helped rally the Raptors from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit. VanVleet’s game-high 33 points — along with five rebounds, eight assists, two steals, two blocks and five treys — were a major catalyst in Toronto’s 123-121 overtime victory on January 16, 2023.
