Only a few years after literally “saving basketball” — as the story in Thunder lore is famously told — Aaron Wiggins used his role-playing superpowers to save Oklahoma City from something else on June 8, 2025: a 2-0 series hole in the NBA Finals. Taking a particular liking to buckets on the floor’s left 3-point slot, Wiggins tests his isolation gifts, conquering Tyrese Haliburton with a smooth crossover-and-stepback combination, followed by a 3-point laser. All-Stars are only as great as the background dancers behind them, and throughout the second half, Wiggins committed himself to fulfilling the latter role perfectly, headlined by a spot-up triple over Obi Toppin’s reach, effectively icing the Thunder’s late-game lead. X-factor-type players make up Oklahoma City’s roster, but few meet the criteria like Wiggins, who has helped ensure a 24-1 record over the 25 games in which he scored 15+ points. Such was again the case in a series-tying Game Two, as Wiggins contributed 18 points (on 6-of-11 shooting), four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and five 3-pointers against the Indiana Pacers.
