In late-August, some time before Gabby Williams had even made her first on-court contribution to the 2024 Seattle Storm, the gifted French forward recognized that her role would be fulfilled through “plugging holes” and adapting to flexible needs. With Seattle’s season hanging by a thread, time quickly diminishing, and requests beginning to pile up, the sixth-year veteran got to work on doing everything, seemingly at once. Delegated the task of helping guide Seattle’s shot selection during a must-score possession, Williams, after the ball swings her way twice, utilizes a drive-and-kick, setting up her six-time All-Star teammate advantageously. Perfectly positioned for an offensive rebound after the shot goes awry, Williams sustains creativity, driving baseline before hanging a daring, circus reverse over A’ja Wilson’s All-Defensive wingspan, ultimately finding bottom. Williams’ penchant for “right place, right time” plays was impactful in helping Seattle claw back from 16 down to force a back-and-forth finish on September 24, 2024. Among the night’s premier contributors, even in defeat, Williams turned in 20 points (on an efficient 8-of-16 shooting), accompanied by five rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
