The Chicago Sky selected Gabriela Jaquez fifth overall for the same relentless two-way motor that carried UCLA to a national championship just weeks earlier, and the 6-foot guard from Camarillo wasted no time validating the front office's read. Opening her professional career on the road against the expansion Portland Fire, Jaquez set the tempo defensively, leaping into a passing lane for a one-handed steal and pushing the loose ball ahead in transition. She found the scoring column on the right block, rising over her defender for her first career bucket, then showed her finishing touch by slipping baseline off a Jacy Sheldon feed and laying in a reverse off the glass. Jaquez finished her debut with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in Chicago's 98-83 victory.
